Southern Charm season 6 premiered in May 2019, but there’s more drama outside the show. Thomas Ravenel bowed out of the Bravo series last year, only to be arrested for assault. With Kathryn Dennis opening up about their relationship, fans are curious about the status between Thomas and his exes, Kathryn Dennis and Ashley Jacobs. But you needn’t go too far. We’ve put together a timeline of this complicated triangle’s relationship, here.

Thomas Ravenel Divorced His First Wife

Thomas Ravenel, the former treasurer of South Carolina, was married to Mary “Katy” Ryan, daughter of the former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, General Mike Ryan. They divorced in 1998, after some two years together.

Ravenel Dated Kathryn Dennis

Kathryn Calhoun Dennis has a pedigree that features some of South Carolina’s most prominent politicians. She is the granddaughter of Rembert Coney Dennis, who served more than 40 years in the South Carolina Senate. On her mother’s side, she is a descendant of John C. Calhoun, a former vice president of the U.S.

Kathryn made her TV debut in Southern Charm season 1, first as a guest. Back then, every male cast member was crushing on her, but it was Thomas Ravenel, 30 years her senior, who successfully wooed the then-21-year-old.

Kathryn would go on to become a main cast member in season 2, as the show documented her increasingly volatile relationship with Thomas.

Ravenel and Dennis Have Two Children

Shortly after their courtship, Kathryn gave birth to their first child together, daughter Kensington Calhoun Ravenel, in 2014. In season 3, they welcomed their son Saint Julien Rembert Ravenel, born in 2015.

But becoming parents for the first time wasn’t as rosy as we imagined. Ahead of the season 6 premiere and in light of Ravenel’s arrest, Kathryn got candid about the red flags in her relationship with Thomas, including the circumstances surrounding her first pregnancy.

According to Kathryn, when they found out they were expecting a child, Thomas went to extreme lengths to keep her pregnancy hidden and separated her from her family and friends for the duration of her pregnancy.

“I was removed,” she said, “He moved me immediately to a different state, kept my pregnancy a secret until the day I gave birth.” She said she found out that the public knew about her baby when a media outlet reached out to her to confirm. “I received a call in the hospital bed,” she recalled. “And then it was, ‘Okay, now people know.’ It was just very, very odd circumstances.”

Furthermore, Kathryn said that adjusting to motherhood was difficult because she didn’t feel very supported by Thomas.

Ravenel and Dennis Fought for Custody of Their Kids

Kathryn and Thomas’ tumultuous relationship finally came to an end in 2016, and what ensued was an ugly custody battle for their kids. In 2016, Kathryn lost custody of her children and checked herself into rehab after she tested positive for marijuana.

She returned to Charleston and the show in time for season 4 and locked horns with Thomas in court. In 2017, however, Thomas was awarded full custody of their children.

In 2018, Kathryn regained 50/50 custody of the children. Despite tensions persisting between the former couple on the show, they put on a united front for their kids.

But their seemingly peaceful co-parenting phase came to an end when Ravenel was charged with assault and battery. Kathryn filed for primary custody of their daughter and son in October 2018.

Ravenel Dated Ashley Jacobs Who Then Joined Southern Charm

After his split from Kathryn, Thomas met nurse Ashley Jacobs (reportedly born December 1, 1984) at a bar in May 2017. They began dating and California native Ashley moved to Charleston—not only to be with Thomas, but also to join Southern Charm as a recurring cast member.

And she brought a host of drama along with her! While Thomas and Kathryn were peacefully co-parenting, Ashley and Kathryn were sparring.

Ashley was crowned the new villain for all the times she verbally attacked Kathryn and cast doubt on her parenting skills. In an uncommon sight, the rest of the Southern Charm cast backed Kathryn against Ashley.

Thomas Ravenel Left Southern Charm after Arrest

In May 2018, Nanny Dawn, who was seen on Southern Charm taking care of Dennis and Ravenel’s kids, accused Thomas of sexual assault and battery. In September, he was charged in an unrelated incident with assault and battery of the second degree and arrested. Ravenel has denied the charges.

After his arrest, Bravo confirmed Ravenel’s departure from the show during the fifth season. He also won’t be seen in season 6, though Ashley is listed as a guest this season.

Thomas had said via a tweet that he was leaving the show. Shortly after his tweet, Ashley deleted all her Instagram posts, signaling she was starting over with a clean slate.

Dennis sought primary custody of their kids after his arrest. But Ravenel slammed her, alleging she was taking the action to further her storyline on Southern Charm.

Southern Charm season 6 premiered with the cast learning about Ravenel’s arrest. Even Kathryn hears about his arrest for the first time through the news and confides in her castmates.

Jacobs and Ravenel Break Up

Thomas, who left the show during season 5, wasn’t at the reunion taping. But Ashley was. And she vehemently defended her relationship with Thomas then.

However, that didn’t last long. After rumors started swirling that they had broken up, Ashley took to Instagram to reveal they had called it quits. From the looks of her post, it appears they parted on good terms.

In August 2018, Ashley also extended an olive branch to Kathryn by publicly apologizing to her on Instagram.

Ashley will be seen in a few episodes of season 6, but possibly not more than that. On May 15, Ashley revealed to her Instagram followers that she had moved back to California in February.

Not sure if they successfully buried the hatchet, though. The season 6 trailer showed that the cast of Charmers were unpleasantly surprised to see Ashley at an event. Moreover, Kathryn is also keeping her distance from the new addition, Eliza Limehouse, who’s apparently a good friend of Ravenel and Jacobs’.

Keep an eye out for Ashley on Southern Charm season 6, Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. EST on Bravo.
