Petara Cordero, Chris Smith’s longtime girlfriend, was killed in a car accident on the morning of September 11 in Ohio, at the age of 26. The couple had welcomed their first child together less than a month ago and were ecstatic about their new life as parents. Petara Cordero Was from North Carolina
Petara Jessie Harris-Cordero was born on July 2, 1993. She’s one of six siblings in the Cordero family, and was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Besides Chris and their daughter, Petara is survived by her parents, including mom Denise Smith; her sisters, Elektra and Kyphi; and brothers, Rameses, Seti, and Min.
Most of her family members still reside in Charlotte. Seti owns a transport company, Cordero Transport & Delivery, based in North Carolina.
Petara’s education history and employment status at the time of her death are not known. However, she did previously work at LaWan’s Soul Food on South Tryon Street in her hometown.
Chris Smith (born February 11, 1992) hails from Salisbury, North Carolina. He remains connected to his hometown and gives back to the local athletic community.

Cordero and Smith Have a Daughter
Smith and Cordero appeared to have been dating for a long time. And they were excited to be parents for the first time.
Cordero wasn’t very active on social media. But she did share updates about her pregnancy on Instagram.
One of their sweetest moments as parents-to-be was a gender reveal party in March, where they found out they were having a girl. Cordero had eagerly anticipated her daughter’s birth since then.
Their baby’s expected due date was on August 17. But from their Instagram posts, it was revealed that the couple welcomed their baby girl, Haven Harris Smith, on August 27. Smith was excused from the Browns-Colts preseason game so he could be present at Haven’s birth.

Cordero Was Killed by a Driver Who Admitted to “Drinking”
The Cleveland Browns released an official statement revealing that Chris Smith’s girlfriend was killed in a car accident on I-90 West in Cleveland on the morning of September 11.
According to reports, Cordero was a passenger in the Lamborghini that Smith was driving. A tire blowout caused the vehicle to hit the median wall.
The couple was apparently unharmed by the initial accident. Cordero had exited the car and was standing on the road’s shoulder when a car struck the passenger side of the Lamborghini and hit Cordero.
Cordero was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Smith was not injured or impaired.
The driver of the other vehicle is a 47-year-old woman who admitted she was drinking at the time of the accident. Charges haven’t been filed while a toxicology report is pending.
“Words cannot describe the sorrow we feel for Chris following the loss of his girlfriend, Petara,” said Dee and Jimmy Haslam, co-owners of the Browns. “Our entire organization mourns with Chris, his family, and the Cordero family. We will do everything possible to offer them our support, comfort and any resources in this most difficult time.”
