Marty, Misty, and Matthew are the stars of Homestead Rescue. So, it’s not unusual for viewers to forget that Matt and Misty have a brother, Miles, and sister, Melanee.
Growing up in Alaska, Misty learned how to survive and make the most of the frigid environment. Misty’s a farmer who knows a thing or two about growing food in the tough terrain of Alaska. The outdoorswoman is also skilled in construction.
Like her siblings, she’s a musician, mountaineer, and hunter-gatherer. They are all certified mountain guides and logistic coordinators.
While the Raneys collectively help struggling homesteaders secure clean water, reinforce falling structures, and endure natural difficulties, Misty equips the off-gridders with means to have food for an entire year. She can immediately tell where the homestead is failing and get started on improvements.
On Homestead Rescue, Misty teaches the families sustainable farming and how to preserve enough vegetables and meat to last some 12 months. She can build a greenhouse and smokers from the ground up and also enclosures to protect livestock from predators.
She’s also a big advocate for composting to provide fertilizer for farming and cutting down on waste.
Raney’s Husband Is a Carpenter
Misty Raney Bilodeau is married to Maciah Bilodeau, a carpenter and surfer. They’ve been together since 2000 and are still going strong.
They are parents to a boy, Gauge, who was born in April 2011. Going by Misty’s Instagram, it appears that Gauge is already a passionate surfer like his dad.
Misty and her father have great chemistry when working, which prompted Maciah to give her an appropriate nickname. “My husband, in a not so weird way—or maybe it is weird—calls me ‘Little Marty,’ which is painful to hear,” Misty said jokingly. “It’s such a compliment at the same time.”

Misty and Her Family Live in Hawaii
Marty and his family have a home in Hatcher Pass, Alaska. Misty and Maciah built their own 800-square-foot cabin not far from the Raney family home.
However, the Bilodeaus also reside in Hawaii, where they surf and help local homesteaders survive off the grid. Misty and Maciah spend the winters in Hawaii and return to Alaska in the summertime.
In Alaska, Misty helps run the family business, Alaska Stone and Log, during the summer. She also joins the rest of the Raney clan in fishing and moose hunting.
The Raneys filmed a special episode of Homestead Rescue in Maui during season 3. Misty, Matt, and Marty help kitesurfers Kristin and Sky Solbach save their homestead threatened by an impending flash flood.
