HBO’s Euphoria is the most gripping series on HBO this season and its young stars are gaining a lot of attention. While Zendaya is the lead, Alexa Demie has earned a legion of fans for her portrayal of Maddy. There’s even talk that she could win an Emmy for her her role. This starlet is certainly going places. Which makes our Alexa Demie wiki worth a read.

Alexa Demie Is from Los Angeles

Alexa Demie was born on December 11, 1994 in Los Angeles. There’s very little known about her early life and family. She mentioned in an interview, however, that she didn’t have an easy life.

She claims to have been a loner in high school, a stark contrast to her character in Euphoria. But Demie mostly relates to Maddy’s troubled home life.

“With some of the more traumatic experiences about Maddy and her home life, I didn’t have the best home life and family situation growing up, so I did tap into that a little bit,” Demie noted. “For me working on Maddy as a character, I took away compassion and understanding.”

“Despite having a difficult upbringing,” Demie said in a separate interview, “I’ve always kept a positive outlook and wanted something better for myself and others that may have been feeling the same.”

Demie Designed Her Own Line of Eyewear

Even as a kid growing up in Los Angeles, Demie was teeming with creativity. She was drawn to the arts, music, and fashion as a teenager.

Inclined towards designing and entrepreneurship, Demie created her own line of sunglasses when she was in high school. The collection was such a hit, she says, it earned investment from Japanese businesses.

Pieces from her collection were sported by Jennifer Lopez and Amber Rose, and even featured in Vogue Korea. She adds she even custom-made eyewear for Nicki Minaj for the rap goddess to wear in her early music videos.

Demie was on the path to fashion school in New York. But a career in music and acting came calling.

Demie Is a Singer, Too

This super-cool starlet always knew she was destined for multiple careers. That also includes her musical ambitions.

Demie has been writing her own songs since she was a tween. She released her first track, “Girl Like Me,” in 2016 and even directed a music video.

She hopes to further pursue her music career, and intended to take a break from acting to do so. However, she got the call for HBO’s Euphoria, and we’re fortunate that she took the opportunity. No need to fret, though. Demie is working on new music and plans to release it in the future.

She Starred in Jonah Hill’s Directorial Debut, Mid90s

Alexa Demie started her acting career with short films and appearances in TV shows like Ray Donovan in 2016. She caught the acting bug when she starred in a friend’s short film.

From there, she bagged a role in a movie about the “Cocaine Godmother,” Griselda Blanco. The movie was never released, though a similar project is reportedly in the works with J.Lo as Blanco. Demie is excited about the HBO project starring Lopez just the same. Though she didn’t get the role, Demie did get representation and booked more roles.

Her big break came with 2018’s Mid90s, Jonah Hill’s directorial debut. She played Estee, a skater girl who falls in love with a young 13-year-old boy. Her character and the film weathered much controversy at the time of the film’s release.

Still, Demie’s acting talent showed. More opportunities came, but she was disappointed by not getting the roles she wanted.

Demie Plays Maddy in Euphoria

A year before she joined the cast of Euphoria, she auditioned for director Augustine Frizzell’s film, Never Goin’ Back. She didn’t get the role and was disheartened about her acting prospects.

However, Frizzell was impressed by her and wanted to work with her. A year later, she contacted Demie for the HBO teen drama produced by Drake.

The compelling script and Drake’s involvement was enough to convince Demie to give acting another shot. Euphoria is her first major TV role, where she plays a foul-mouthed, wild cheerleader, Maddy.

Euphoria blew up as soon as it premiered on June 16. Demie’s plans to dodge the release with a no-phone vacation in Mexico didn’t hold up when she caved and went on Twitter, only to be overwhelmed with the positive response to the teen drama.

And word of her talent is spreading, too. Apparently, director Gia Coppola called her contacts at Euphoria to connect with the young actress. Coppola has reportedly cast Demie in her movie, Mainstream, alongside Andrew Garfield.
