Why are Chip and Joanna leaving Fixer Upper? Yes, it’s true. Chip and Joanna’s Fixer Upper days are coming to an end and their fans are not having it. With the HGTV show ending, fans want to know why their favorite reality TV couple are leaving. For more details, we have just what you need.
Chip and Joanna Gaines Leaving HGTV
Is Fixer Upper going off the air? We never thought we would have to ask, but after Chip and Joanna Gaines’ announcement, fans now have to deal with the fact that the hit HGTV show is wrapping up.
“It is with both sadness and expectation that we share the news that season 5 of Fixer Upper will be our last. While we are confident that this is the right choice for us, it has for sure not been an easy one to come to terms with,” the couple wrote on their blog. “Our family has grown up alongside yours, and we have felt you rooting us on from the other side of the screen. How bittersweet to say goodbye to the very thing that introduced us all in the first place.”
They’re Doing it for Their Kids
No matter what your job title is, chances are you follow the golden rule: Family first. While some families thrive from being overexposed in the spotlight (like the Kardashian clan), the Gaines’ would rather focus on their family and give their kids a normal childhood.
“Our beautiful children are growing up so quickly,” said Joanna in a video announcing the decision. “The idea that we get to step back, get fresh with vision, get some rest, and hunker down with our kiddos is something that we’re excited about.”
Joanna wrote about the ground rules she and Chip set early on saying, “We carved out certain hours each day that we needed to set aside for family and business and insisted we would never travel more than 30 minutes outside of the Waco area for our renovation projects. We needed to be home for our kids, and their needs were going to come first as much as humanly possible.”
Chip and Joanna have four kids together: Drake, 12; Ella Rose, 10; Duke, 9; and Emmie Kay, 7.
Will They Come Back?
Fans have enjoyed watching Fixer Upper for the last five seasons and they probably wish there were five more seasons. Sadly, nothing lasts forever—except The Big Bang Theory or Grey’s Anatomy—and eventually it will be time to say goodbye.
“We believe in our hearts that we’re going to see you again right around the corner, so stay tuned,” Chip said.
What does that mean? Could the HGTV power couple be working on a new project?! We’ve seen their private and personal lives and with this bittersweet news, it would be cruel to play with the fans’ emotions. That’s just show business and if we know Chip and Joanna Gaines as well as we think we do, they aren’t going anywhere too far.
