There was a period where Suge Knight was in the news or made headlines seemingly every other week. Even prison stories involving Suge Knight would get out to the public and often cause a sensation. But for the past year, it’s been pretty quiet. Which begs the question, where is Suge Knight now? Is Suge Knight still alive? Is Suge Knight dead? We’ve decided to take a look and give the world a Suge Knight update. We’ll explain where Suge Knight is now and what he is up to, so keep reading!
Where in the World is Suge Knight?
Where is Suge Knight? Well, in a word, jail. On January 29, 2015, Knight was involved in an incident on the set of the NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton. Knight had apparently heard stories that he was a character in the film and that his character was not portrayed in the greatest of lights. Allegedly, Knight was angered by the story and he made his way to the set. There was an incident as possibly a fight broke out. Knight reportedly left the scene quickly in his truck but not before striking two men, one of which, Terry Carter, ended up dead. Witnesses contend that Knight purposely struck the men, while Knight’s defense has been that he was fleeing in self-defense and struck the men accidentally.
To make things worse, Knight was on probation at the time for a completely unrelated robbery charge! Knight turned himself to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department early the next morning, and Knight has been in jail ever since.
Why Has Suge Knight Been in Jail for So Long?
Suge Knight’s jail time has been pretty extensive for this incident. As of this writing, Knight has been in jail nearly three years without a trial. So, what’s been taking so long? A lot of different things. Knight has changed lawyers on multiple occasions and each time a new lawyer has come in, that lawyer has needed to prepare from scratch. Knight has also had a number of health issues while being in jail; his lawyer contends that Knight has had major issues with blood clots since being shot in 2014. Suge Knight’s 2017, in particular, has been a rough year in many regards, as he was hospitalized in March, delaying court proceedings again. But in August, a grand jury indicted Knight on charges of threatening death or bodily injury against the director of Straight Outta Compton, F. Gary Grey. While those charges are a separate matter and will be handled separately, there is a chance that may end up delaying Knight’s court proceedings even further. The irony of all of this is that while Knight’s character is in Straight Outta Compton, it’s a minor role with very little in the way of being defamatory towards Knight.
As of this writing, if all goes as planned, Suge Knight will be back in court on January 8, 2018, when his hit and run murder trial begins. When the judge set the court date, he made sure to mention to Knight that even if Knight switches lawyers again, this date is set in stone. Only time will tell if this is the date that sticks.
