Rybáriková’s Tennis Career

From a very young age, Rybáriková loved tennis. She started playing the sport at the age of eight. To further pursue her interest in tennis, she moved to Bratislava when she was 15 in order to train at the national tennis center.

In 2004, Rybáriková started playing on the ITF Circuit, allowing her the opportunity to compete in some of the biggest tournaments. Two years later, she reached the Girls’ Singles Final at Wimbledon but, unfortunately, lost in three sets to Caroline Wozniacki. But the tables turned for Rybáriková as, in 2008, she finally tasted victory by winning her first ITF 50k title and was qualified to reach Wimbledon and the French Open.

In October that year, Rybáriková played her first tour semifinals at the Tier IV Tashkent Open. She defeated Flavia Pennetta in the quarter-finals at the 2009 Moorilla Hobart International, before going on to beat Caroline Wozniacki in the quarter-finals at the 2009 PTT Pattaya Women’s Open, held in Pattaya City, Thailand. In 2008 and 2009, Rybáriková reached the third round at the U.S. Open.

She finally tasted victory when she won the first of her four WTA tour singles titles by deteating Li Na at the 2009 Aegon Classic. She even won the 2011 Cellular South Cup and 2012 Citi Open. In June 2013, Rybáriková placed in the semifinals at the 2013 Aegon Classic, and later won her fourth WTA title.

At the 2014 Wimbledon Championships, Rybáriková and her partner, Andrea Petkovic, reached the semi-finals of the Women’s Doubles. At the 2015 Wimbledon Championships, she reached the third round of a Grand Slam Singles event. In August 2013, Rybáriková achieved her career-high WTA singles ranking of 31.

Rybáriková is now competing at the 2017 Wimbledon Championships. In fact, she beat the world’s No, 3 player, Karolína Plíšková in the second round. Subsequently, she progressed to her first Grand Slam semi-final, after Coco Vandeweghe lost the quarter-final match to her. She is currently ranked No. 87 in Singles.
