The sequel to Marvel’s superhero blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy is still in its production stages, so the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 release date is scheduled for May 5, 2017. TitledGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (GOTG2), the comic book-inspired action-comedy will hit cinemas next year and will bring some new superheros to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is set to be the 15th film from the producers at Marvel Comics, and the makers of Marvel’s Avengers are calling the shots on this one.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is directed by James Gunn, who directed the first installment in 2014. Kevin Feige, who has produced almost all of Marvel’s blockbusters, including the Avengers series, the Thor series, the Captain America series, and Ant-man (2015), will be producing this movie as well.

The Guardians characters will return, played by the ensemble cast of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord/Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket. Besides these, the movie will introduce new superhero characters and bring along super-villains and ravaging plots as expected. So, here are top five facts about the movie that you should know before you watch it.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Peter Quill’s Father

We all know that Marvel Studios is pretty good at avoiding any leaks or details of production and development for its upcoming movies  But, here’s the first confirmed spilled info on GOTG2 and its new cast members. The makers and director James Gunn have confirmed that the movie will introduce Peter Quill/Star-Lord’s father, and will bring a comical twist to its plot. And, the actor playing Chris Pratt’s on-screen father is none other than the “strongest man” himself, Kurt Russell. Russell will be playing Quill’s father, who’s name is yet to be known, and will join Marvel’s superhero league with this movie character.

Will Yondu Join the Guardians Gang?

The blue-skinned bandit of Ravagers may join the gang in the sequel. Yondu Udonta, played by Michael Rooker, was seen in the first movie as leader of Ravagers and father figure to Quill. His return in the sequel is likely to be as an addition to the Guardians gang, along with Kraglin, Yondu’s loyal Ravager, played by Sean Gunn.

Entry Of Howard the Duck

Another comical character of the Guardians comics may make an entry in this sequel. A rather odd-looking hero called Howard the Duck is probably joining the superheroes in GOTG2. For those who don’t know, Howard the Duck is literally a duck with no superpowers whatsoever. You can call his satirical sense of ranting and his kick-ass kung fu skills (called Quack-Fu) his super-abilities since they tend to irritate everyone, including the bad guys. It’s rumored that Rocky star Sylvester Stallone might voice this character, but there’s no confirmation on this as yet.

Thanos

James Gunn has revealed that Thanos will be returning in the sequels with an even bigger scheme of destruction. But, it’s speculated that Thanos’ involvement in the sequel will be quite minimal as the Guardians will be busy with some more evil supernaturals. The sequel is set to expand the characters of Xandarian, Kree, and Krylorian and will explore the culture of the Ravagers.

Will it lead to Avengers: Infinity War?

As most of us expected, the next Marvel movie to be teased is this epic final; however, it’s now clear that GOTG2 won’t be the film to tease that. Sadly, the makers have confirmed that the movie will not be leading towards Avengers: Infinity War and will continue exploring more characters and plots strictly out of the Guardians universe.
