Funny, confident, sexy, and not so shy with the profanity, Cardi B is getting a whole lot of attention, especially when it comes to her no-holds-barred social media posts and videos. This Bronx girl is on the scene, looking to make her mark, make the “money moves,” and bring in the “schmoney!” Read on to find out all about this rising star, including Cardi B’s net worth 2017 and the scoop on the Cardi B/Offset relationship.
Cardi B’s Net Worth in 2017
Reportedly, Cardi B’s net worth in 2017 is now $4.0 million. Yes, $4.0 million! That’s gone up substantially from what it was reported at back in May of this year…which was $600,000. A great figure, but not millionaire status. Seemingly bursting onto the scene out of nowhere, most of her new earnings can be attributed to her huge record deal and her ridiculously popular first single. And she’s certainly enjoying the change in lifestyle! The hip hop artist is obsessed with fashion and mixes and matches pieces from a variety of designers to create many different unique looks; in fact, she has designers reaching out to her now! This month, Cardi B bought herself some expensive (and oh so sparkly) bling for her birthday. And, even though she doesn’t have her license yet, the rising star recently purchased a tangerine “Bentley;” quite the status symbol for such a young woman!
More on Cardi B’s net worth in 2017 later. First, let’s take a look at how a down-on-her-luck girl from the Bronx became a millionaire in such a short time.
Cardi B Before the Fame
Belcalis Almanzar (who later became known as Cardi B) was born on October 11, 1992, making Cardi B’s age 25 as of this month.
So, where did she get the name “Cardi B?” It’s certainly not short form for Belcalis. In an interview with Wendy Williams in July 2017, Cardi B said she was nicknamed Bacardi, as in the brand of rum, because her sister Hennessy was given the name Hennessy Carolina, after the French cognac. Bacardi was later tweaked to Cardi B.
She grew up in New York City, in the South Bronx, but also spent a lot of time with her grandmother in the Washington Heights area of Manhattan. A New Yorker with a Caribbean background, Cardi B’s mother was from Trinidad and her father was from Dominica. Her younger sister, Hennessey Carolina, is following in Cardi B’s footsteps as a social media personality.
Even though much of her youth was reportedly spent affiliated with or as a member of the infamous ‘Bloods’ gang, Cardi B did go to Renaissance High School for Musical Theater & Technology. However, she dropped out (for a man, who ended up abusing her, according to an interview with Cardi B) and started to work at a supermarket. A humble start but it was just the beginning.
When she was 19 years old, Cardi B began working at a strip club. According to a VladTV interview, the on-the-rise music artist feels that exotic dancing was a positive move for her, saying that it saved her from a life of poverty and domestic violence. And it certainly seemed to do more than pay the bills, as Cardi B was able to afford both breast and butt augmentation procedures. The exotic dancing experience also gave her a taste of the good life…we’re talking fashion, one of Cardi B’s passions. When she was still just 19, a club client gifted her a pair of $800 Christian Louboutin shoes. But, as she says in her hit “Bodak Yellow” lyrics, “Look, I don’t dance now, I make money moves.”
Cardi B: Instagram and Vine Fame
While working as an exotic dancer, Cardi B couldn’t keep her desire for the limelight and her fun-loving, outspoken personality under wraps. She started to build a large Internet following, gaining Instagram and Vine star status in 2013 with some viral funny, brutally honest, and sexy videos. On her Instagram page alone, Cardi B currently has 11.7 million followers…and climbing! If you haven’t yet, you need to check out Cardi B’s Instagram; she may curse a lot, but she’s very entertaining and charming. Still…NSFW!
But the newly budding social media celebrity had plenty of ambition beyond social media, proceeding to set her sights first on reality TV, then on the music industry.
Reality Show Fame
In 2015, Cardi B broke onto the reality TV scene with her debut in season six of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: New York. The opinionated, gregarious, and outrageous Cardi B fit right into the show, becoming a fan favorite. She also coined many phrases, like “I’m just a regular, degular, schmegular girl from the Bronx.” Cardi B did a second season, season seven, before leaving to pursue her real ambition: music.
She made a couple of other reality TV appearances, including one with Khloé Kardashian on Kocktails with Khloé, was featured on game show Hip Hop Squares, and was a guest star in season four of the hit drama series, Being Mary Jane.
We don’t have specific numbers on her TV earnings, but with Cardi B’s net worth being $600,000 at the beginning of 2017, she was obviously starting to rake it in. All just another stepping stone towards her rap star dreams.
An Entertainment Force on the Rise
Famous Jamaican singer/songwriter Shaggy gave her a big break in November 2015, having her sing on his “Boom Boom” remix. Cardi B followed up on this in December 2015 with her own version of Lady Leshurr’s “Queen’s Speech 4” that she titled, “Cheap Ass Weave.” That was her first music video…and it certainly proved once again that Cardi B was made for visual media!
Cardi B’s Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 mixtape came out on March 7, 2016. Later the same year, Cardi B’s song “What a Girl Likes” was included on a compilation called Underestimated: The Album, which was a collaboration between multiple KSR Group artists.
Proving that she’s serious, her second mixtape, Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 2, hit the scene on January 20, 2017.
Very shortly after that, in February 2017, Cardi B locked in her first major record label deal, with Atlantic Records. That was the big fish regarding where Cardi B’s net worth in 2017 would come from. Remember that $4.0 million we talked about? Cardi B might soon start seeing even more checks come rolling in. She also recently signed a worldwide publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing!
“Bodack Yellow” Dubbed 2017 Summer Anthem
June 2017 saw Cardi B’s first commercial single release…and it was quite the success! “Bodak Yellow” hit number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Dubbed “rap anthem of the summer” by The New York Times, the album gained gold record status in August 2017. Cardi B saw even more success in September when “Bodak Yellow” topped the Hot 100, toppling pop goddess, Taylor Swift. In fact, Cardi B made music history: the last time a song by a solo female rapper hit this milestone was almost 20 years ago, when Lauren Hill did it! Quite the accomplishment for such a new artist! The new album is expected to be released in the first half of 2018.

Truly a breakout artist, Cardi B saw immediate recognition in the industry after the release of her single, which was nominated for “Best New Artist” and “Best Female Hip-Hop Artist” at the June 25th 2017 BET Awards. She didn’t go home with those awards, but Cardi B got her moment in the spotlight with the nominations and with her BET Awards after-party performance.
In addition to the BET awards, where she killed it with “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi B has been featured at many events, including:
- New York Fashion Week
- On one stop of hip hop group The Lox’s “Filthy America… It’s Beautiful” tour, along with rappers Lil’ Kim and Remy Ma
- Hot 97 Summer Jam Music Festival, where Remy Ma featured Cardi B along with major female rappers like Queen Latifah and Lil’ Kim, among others
- MoMA PS1’s Outdoor Music Series, Warm Up 2017
Cardi B will be performing next on October 26, 2017, at the Power 105.1’s Big Powerhouse Hip Hop event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with fellow artists The Weeknd, Lil Uzi Vert, and French Montana.
All of these appearances are sure to contribute to Cardi B’s net worth…more schmoney, honey!
Who Is Cardi B’s Boyfriend?
The rap artist is not shy about her goals of fame and wealth (and it looks like her persistence and social media presence are paying off!) Cardi B is obviously very career-focused and super hard-working. In “Bodak Yellow,” she even raps: “What b**** working hard as me?”
But, with all of that said, she still makes time for a personal life, maybe even love. She is currently dating fellow rapper Offset, aka Kiari Cephus. Born in 1991, Offset is from Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Offset is a member of hip hop group Migos, which he formed with his cousin, Quavo, and Quavo’s uncle, Takeoff while they grew up together in the Atlanta area. The trio has released two studio albums, Yung Rich Nation (2015) and Culture (2017). Migos’ biggest hit so far is “Bad and Boujee.” Offset has also done some solo projects and has collaborated with other artists, including Drake and Macklemore. In fact, Cardi B and Offset have collaborated as well; he was featured on Cardi B’s song, “Lick.”
Offset has a bit of a past with the law, having done jail time for violating probation on felony convictions for burglary/theft. He also did jail time for charges of inciting a riot and battery related to an incident following his arrest along with his Migos group members for charges related to drug and firearm possession. But Cardi B’s not concerned about all of that.
According to a July 2017 interview on The Wendy Show, the Cardi B-Offset dating relationship may have been going on since before the last Super Bowl (February 2017). However, Cardi B wouldn’t confirm; she was actually pretty flustered when asked about her relationship with Offset. She ended up being coy, saying: “I mean I don’t really date, you know what I’m saying…you know, I just have fun.”
Things seem to have progressed beyond “just fun” since then. She’s even incorporated him into one of her favorite pastimes—her manicure! This is classic Cardi B. And check out the fact that she calls him by pet names, such as “babe.”
But whatever the true status of their relationship at this point, these two are all over each other’s social media and we are loving it! They’re certainly not shy about their affection for each other and they seem to be each other’s biggest support.
This month, Offset posted a sweet birthday message on Instagram, professing his love and admiration for Cardi B. (And are those diamond ring emojis? Hmmm…)
Cardi B’s Instagram “Thank You”
When Cardi B isn’t goofing around, showing off her outfits or bling, philosophizing, or ranting on her Instagram, the hip artist and soon-to-be author is showing that she’s truly grateful to the fans, artists, and industry people who are supporting her in her dreams. Who knows where this talented and ambitious woman will go next? The sky’s certainly the limit for Cardi B!
