Will Ferrell is promoting his new movie, The House with Amy Poehler, dishing on the original Ron Burgundy script, getting political, and kicking up a laugh riot on Saturday Night Live. Though there’s never a time Ferrell isn’t in the spotlight, we rarely see him step out with his family. In fact, the one time he did, people went crazy! Will Ferrell and Viveca Paulin prefer to keep their personal life out of the media. Nevertheless, we want to know more about Will Ferrell’s wife and kids. So, we’re sharing details about her, right here in our Viveca Paulin wiki.

#1. She is from Sweden

Viveca Birgitta Paulin was born on April 24, 1969, which makes her 48 years old. She was born in Askim, Gothenburg Municipality, Sweden. It’s not known when she moved to the U.S. She did, however, attend Pomona College in California and graduated in 1991.

She is an actress having worked with her husband in A Night at the Roxbury, and is now credited as a producer and art auctioneer. Paulin was an independent auctioneer for clients, including Bonhams and Butterfield & Butterfield, and is an auctioneer at the Los Angeles Modern Auctions. She is on the Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and a supporter of the Hammer Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the MAK Center, with her husband.

She was a producer on Money Talks and Nail Polish. Her net worth hasn’t been calculated, but we’re sure she has nothing to worry about being married to one of the richest comedians, who has a net worth of $100.0 million!

#2. They Met in Acting Class

When Ferrell realized he could make people laugh in school, he started his comedic talent. After graduating with a degree in sports information, he knew he wasn’t going into broadcasting. He worked odd jobs, where his reckless and error-prone antics got him into trouble. Encouraged by his mother to do something he liked, he moved to L.A. to pursue a career in comedy and entertainment.

In L.A., he enrolled in acting classes where he met the pretty and intelligent Swedish stunner named Viveca Paulin. They dated briefly, but it initially didn’t work out and they remained friends. While he was with the improv-group, The Groundlings, he was in need of rent money and she got him a typing gig at the auction house she worked at.

#3. She was the One that Got Away

Ferrell was dating another woman when he landed a coveted spot on SNL. He moved to New York while having a long distance relationship with his girlfriend and keeping in touch with Paulin. “Viv and I would talk as friends for two hours, and it would feel like five minutes, and then my girlfriend would call and after 15 minutes I’d be like, ‘God, it’s really late here on the East Coast. I should get some sleep.’ For me, Viv was the one that got away.”

So, how did they eventually get together? Ferrell returned to L.A. while on hiatus from SNL and Paulin took him out for a drink. While impressed by her tenacity to down a beer in just two swigs, he told her that he still liked her. During an interview with the two, he said, “I just told my uncle that I’m going to marry you one day! Then we didn’t know what to do with ourselves. So she drove me home, and I went in for the kiss, and she gave me the cheek. I was like, What does this all mean?” After being friends for five years, they began dating each other again, until they were married in 2000.

#4. His Proposal is Not Recommended

Advice to all guys proposing to their girlfriends: Don’t do it Will Ferrell’s way! One of the funniest guys in the industry had a little trouble getting his then-future wife to laugh at his proposal.

As he revealed in an interview with People, “I took her to an undisclosed location, blindfolded her, put her in the trunk of a car and said, ‘Do you want to marry me?’ She goes, ‘No.’ But then I pursued her doggedly for seven years, and then she finally said ‘yes’ – maybe because I wrote her over 10,000 letters while I was in prison.” We doubt that it’s a true story, but Ferrell’s hilariously concocted scenario still seems like a bad proposal idea!

#5. She’s the Only Lady in the House

Will Ferrell and Viveca Paulin are parents to three boys: Magnus, 13, Mattias, 10, and Axel, 7. When Magnus and Mattias were four and one, respectively, Ferrell was giving dubious (and funny) advice to Nicole Kidman, who just gave birth to her daughter. “Don’t let them play in old, abandoned refrigerators,” he told her. Classic, Will!

The youngest Ferrell was born with some great timing. A ready-to-pop Paulin accompanied her husband on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. She even did a sketch and performed “Free Bird” with Ferell, O’Brien, and the house band. Only a few hours after the couple wrapped up at The Tonight Show, Axel was born! Good timing!
