Sofia Vergara has another good cause to her name. The Modern Family star is supporting the “It Can Wait” campaign, launched and funded by AT&T, which discourages people from using their cell phones while driving for any matter whatsoever.
The 43-year-old beauty took to Instagram to post a short video of the campaign, which urges people to tag the five people they contact the most from their phone. The idea behind the clever campaign is to spread awareness with the tagline, “What if your next post could help save someone’s life?” They add that no post, e-mail, or text is worth a life.
Her choice of five people that Vergara tagged are her 24-year-old son, Manolo Vergara; her look-alike niece, Claudia Vergara; her famous husband-to-be, Joe Manganiello; her Modern Family co-star Eric Stonestreet; and her long-time business partner, Luis Balaguer.
Manganiello took up the challenge and shared the post on his own Twitter feed, along with the hashtag “Tag5ToSave5.” The five people he tagged in the tweet were his younger brother, Nicholas Manganiello; his True Blood co-star Anna Paquin; his Magic Mike co-stars Matt Bomer and Channing Tatum; and close pal Arnold Schwarzenegger.
According to the It Can Wait campaign’s web site, over 7.2 million pledges have been made so far, which is impressive considering that almost half of commuters admit to texting while they’re driving. Pledging simply means sharing the message on either Facebook or Twitter and then tagging friends. Other celebrities who have brought awareness to the campaign on social media in the past include singer Demi Lovato, country star Tim McGraw, and Olympic gymnast Jordyn Wieber.
