What is Barack Obama doing now? He has not disappeared but has remained fairly low key since his retirement from Office. The former president seems more invisible than he actually is, primarily because he has not exercised the use of his confident, eloquent speech since he stepped down and allowed his successor the podium. So, while President Trump works diligently to undo the work of Obama, the former President has kept himself busy, traveling and spending time with his family.

Today, Barack Obama is establishing new routines and post-White House roles. Where does Obama live now? The former President and former First Lady Michelle live in Washing D.C.’s Kalorama neighborhood and spend a lot of time traveling. Just a few days ago, the couple was spotted on Harvard University’s campus moving their eldest child into her dorm room. That’s right! Malia will be a college freshman this fall! In early August, he celebrated his 56th birthday, kitesurfing with Richard Branson. In June, Obama went to Bali where he and his family enjoyed an amazing family vacation. Photographs captured of them showed that they went on a rafting adventure together down the Ayung River, and visited the Tirtha Empul temple in yellow sarongs. They toured the Jatiluwih rice terraces and stayed at the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan. Why Indonesia? Obama lived there as a child, when he and his mother moved to Jakarta. In 1971, he moved back to his birthplace of Honolulu. The Obamas took a six-day vacation in Italy in May, playing golf and hiking, and Obama took some time to deliver an impactful speech at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate.
But his time out of Office hasn’t been all fun and games–he went above the border in Jun and met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to talk about their “shared commitment to developing the next generation of leaders,” according to a tweet by the Obama Foundation. In May, he went to Chicago to unveil plans for his own future presidential center. “What we want this to be is the world premiere institution for training young people and leadership to make a difference in their communities, in their countries and in the world,” he said. The plan involves a tower-like museum and tree-lined walkways. Additionally, Obama and his wife wrote several books and the bidding for them has skyrocketed to over $65.0 million! The couple plan to write their books individually, and sell the rights jointly.
Since his Presidency, Obama has been somewhat of a celebrity icon. He wore a cool, brown leather jacket in March that got some attention. He was also complimented for looking great on the golf course a few months ago. Many people would say they miss Obama for all kinds of reasons; for his ability to connect with younger generations; his eloquent, impactful speeches; his desire to unite the American people; and his often surprising yet enjoyable pop culture references. Though clearly, he is more than enjoying his down time during his much-deserved retirement!
