DC Comics has enjoyed great success with its line of broadcast TV shows, despite initial doubts of the success of a series about its lesser known characters (or any character that’s not Batman, really). Following the popularity of Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl comes Legends of Tomorrow, which has proven to possibly be even more popular than the abovementioned shows, despite having a roster of lesser-known characters. Here’s what we know about the show so far based on the Legends of Tomorrow episode 3 trailer. The upcoming episode is titled Blood Ties.
First, if you haven’t caught an episode yet, Legends of Tomorrow is about Rip Hunter, a time traveller of the future, going back in time and assembling a team of superheroes—Firestorm, The Atom, White Canary, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Heat Wave and Captain Cold—to stop Vandal Savage from taking over the world and creating the terrible future that Hunter comes from.
Legends of Tomorrow succeeds in part because of DC taking a cue with Marvel’s handling of the film version of the Avengers, in that they introduced each character individually to the audience and gave them a reason to care before bringing them all together. The team has all appeared before on episodes of Arrow and The Flash (Captain Cold and Heat Wave are especially notable, being Flash villains), as had main antagonist Vandal Savage, who was already established as a threat, having killed Green Arrow and countless others before Flash went back in time to prevent it.
According to the synopsis for Legends of Tomorrow episode 3, fans will See Rip Hunter trying to stop Savage by hitting him where it really hurts: his bank account, taking Sara (White Canary) to where he keeps his money. Unfortunately, they aren’t stealthy enough and get discovered, forcing a desperate escape. In addition, Professor Stein (one half of Firestorm) helps Ray (Atom) on a mission and Leonard (Captain Cold) and Mick (Heat Wave) convince Jax (Firestorm’s other half) to head back with them to Central City to steal an emerald. Does being in Central City mean we’ll get a cameo from Grant Gustin’s Flash?
Legends of Tomorrow episode 3, Blood Ties, airs tonight (Thursday, February 4) on The CW. And you’ll likely have the option to also watch online later! In the meantime, check out the Legends of Tomorrow episode 3 trailer and promo below.
