What is the Casey Anthony Docuseries About?

The series focuses on the death of two-year-old Caylee Anthony and her mother, Casey Anthony. Viewers will learn about the lies Casey told the police after her daughter went missing for 31 days, and uncover the volatile relationship Casey had with her parents. On July 15, 2008, Cindy Anthony, Casey’s mother, reported her granddaughter missing. Casey was arrested for counts of negligence the next day and lied to the police, saying that she had left Caylee with her nanny Zenaida “Zanny” Fernandez-Gonzalez, and noticed they were both missing when she went to pick Caylee up. On September 25 that year, Zanny came forward saying she had never met Casey or any member of the Anthony family, and filed a lawsuit against Casey for defamation of character. Two months after the missing person’s report was filed, Caylee’s remains were found near the Anthony home. The trial lasted a month and a half ended with the verdict that Casey did not murder her daughter.

In light of the growing interest in famous court cases, Investigation Discovery rehashed the Casey Anthony case in the network’s three-part docuseries. About deciding to air the documentary, the President of ID, Henry Schleiff said,” It’s shocking that we don’t have closure on how and why Caylee Anthony was killed,” adding, “Now, with the benefit of time, our viewers want to understand what happened and uncover the truth.”
