I can’t [say more]… You’ve waited this long,” star Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca, told US Weekly. Moore expressed her surprise with the positive reception about the show and attributed it to the show’s “charismatic entertainment—they wanted something that resonated on an emotional level with them. It was appointment television that they could talk about, all the characters, obstacles and challenges, with their friends and family and find a way to relate it back to their life. I think people were just hungry for a show like this.”
Entertainment Weekly spoke to Metz about the traumatic plot twist involving Toby and the star said the cast was “devastated,” but she felt it was “amazing storytelling. And they keep you on the edge of your seat by pulling your heartstrings. I knew that something was going to happen because that’s just the evolution of the story, but… I don’t know. It’s heart-wrenching.” She remained tight-lipped about the outcome saying, “I understand the answers. And why they chose to do what they wanted to do… I know it’s so cryptic!” Metz did give some teasers about how her character will move forward after the event, saying Kate will have a lot of decisions to make and viewers will have to decide whether those choices are good for her or not. “She’s got a lot of pressure from her family, but she really truly has to come to terms with what’s best for her.”
