While there were a lot of well-dressed men and women at the event, Beyoncé’s Met Gala 2016 dress stood out among the already extravagant crowd. Not only did it meet the Meta Gala 2016 theme, but it stunned onlookers and may have set the precedent for style for the event. So, what did Beyoncé wear at the Met Gala for 2016?

For those who simply know the Met Gala as an annual event where a bunch of celebrities dress up and mingle, it’s actually an annual event with the full name of the Costume Institute Gala that serves as a fundraiser for New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The opening for the annual fashion exhibit, the Met Gala, is a highly exclusive event that raises millions and captures global attention thanks to all the celebrities in attendance. Each year also has a theme, with 2016’s being “Manus x Machina: Fashion In an Age of Technology.”

Beyoncé at the Met Gala for 2016 captured a lot of attention; perhaps even more than when she served as an honorary event day chair in 2013. A lot of that attention was due to her attire: a skintight, light orange latex dress made by the esteemed designer brand Givenchy. And the designer, Riccardo Tisci, didn’t stop there, as the dots that line most of the dresses upper half appear to help tie the outfit into this year’s theme, as they resemble the pins that line a computer’s motherboard.

The dress aside, this year’s Met Gala was hopefully a quieter, happier one for Beyoncé’ in comparison to 2014 when her husband, Jay Z, got into an altercation with her sister, Solange Knowles. The argument was due to Knowles implying that her brother-in-law had been unfaithful—a topic that has returned to the forefront with the release of Beyoncé’s new album, Lemonade, as fans and analysts continue to try and figure out who the “Becky” mentioned on the album is.
