June 12th 2016 was the day when the 2016 Tony Awards were held at New York City’s Beacon Theater. The award ceremony for the Tony Awards (which is also known as the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre)  is held for the sole purpose of garnering recognition to actors and actresses in live Broadway theater. The award ceremony was hosted by none other than James Corden, who is famous for hosting The Late Late Show. The show was incredible, and Corden’s hosting was brilliant; however, if you missed the show and wish to watch the Tony Awards 2016 opening performance videos, then you have come to the right place.

The award ceremony debuted in 1947, and apart from giving awards for Broadway performances and productions, an award is also presented for regional theater. Normally, there are 24 categories of awards, but various other special awards are also given. Over time, the categories and names of the award have changed. The 2016 Tony Awards show lasted for two hours with various musical numbers performed by artists.

Several celebrities performed at the ceremony, including the cast of Tony-nominated shows like She Loves Me, School of Rock, Waitress, Bright Star, Hamilton,, and On Your Feet, as well as by Corden himself. He started the show by paying tribute to victims of the deadly shooting at the gay club, Pulse, in Orlando Florida. He said, “All around the world, people are trying to come to terms with the horrific events that took place in Orlando this morning. On behalf of the whole theater community and every person in this room, our hearts go out to all of those affected by this atrocity. All we can say is you are not on your own right now. Your tragedy is our tragedy. Theater is a place where every race, creed, sexuality, and gender is equal, is embraced, and is loved. Hate will never win. Together, we have to make sure of that. Tonight’s show stands as a symbol and celebration of that principle.”

From there on, the Hamilton cast came on the stage singing parody about Corden, which ended with Corden appearing on stage and introducing the audience to the 2016 Tony Awards. Followed by a little history about the awards and what the audience could expect at the awards ceremony. He also performed a musical number signifying his love for theater from a young age.

Everybody knows how entertaining and funny Corden is, and having a host like him must have been a blast for the audience. Without further ado, go ahead and watch the opening performance videos of the Tony Awards 2016 and do let us know what you think of them in the comment section below.
