Last night at the 2016 Oscars, actor Leonardo DiCaprio won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for his latest movie The Revenant, and finally ended his two-decade-long chase for the coveted award. Leonardo beat fellow actors Matt Damon, Bryan Cranston, Michael Fassbender, and Eddie Redmayne to grab the golden statue for himself. In the midst of roaring applause as the humble DiCaprio went on the stage to accept it, the actor took a moment to look at everyone in the audience and showed off a happy smile on his face, likely remembering how great it feels to win an Oscar. Watch Leonardo Dicaprio’s Academy Award acceptance speech in the video below:

DiCaprio thanked the Academy and everyone present in the room as he started off his speech saying, “I have to congratulate the other incredible nominees this year, and for their unbelievable performances.” Leonardo then thanked the cast and crew of The Revenant, saying, “First off, to my brother in this endeavor, Mr. Tom Hardy. Tom, your fierce talent on-screen can only be surpassed by your friendship off-screen with Mr. Alejandro Inarritu.” Leonardo thanked the director and his crew mates for “creating a transcendent cinematic experience for all of us.”

DiCaprio then went on to thank the production house and studio, Fox and Regency, and even thanked some people who had helped him out during the onset of his career in 1993, like Martin Scorsese “for teaching [him] so much about the cinematic art form.” DiCaprio also mentioned his friends and parents, adding, “None of this would be possible without you.”

The actor ended his acceptance speech with a crucial stance on environmental problems, saying that the movie was made to show man’s relationship with the Earth. Being an active environmentalist himself, DiCaprio said, “Climate change is real, and it’s happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together.” Thanking everyone for this award, Leo ended the speech with, “Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not tke tonight for granted. Thank you so very much.”
