Usain Bolt took to Instagram to debut his new collection with Puma. Currently the world’s fastest man and a six-time Olympic gold medal winner, this new collection marks another step in the long-time partnership between Bolt and the Puma brand.
Puma and Bolt have been in tandem since 2002. Though their partnership will continue till after the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, former CEO of Puma Jochen Zeitz nearly dropped Bolt after a disappointing 2004 Olympic performance and Bolt not training “as hard as he should.”
Zeitz ultimately decided to stick with Bolt, and after working with a new coach shortly thereafter, it’s safe to say that decision has paid off. Puma’s deal with Bolt sees the World Champion earning $10 million a year, and the new collection will certainly help Bolt make good on that investment.
In addition to being a multiple Olympic gold medalist, the man commonly referred to as “Lightning Bolt” also holds the world record for both the 100 meters and 200 meters, along with a team record for the 4×100 meter relay.
Usain Bolt isn’t the only celebrity making news for Puma. Rihanna will finally debut her long-awaited Puma collection at New York Fashion Week, which officially kicks off today (February 11). With the success of her latest Anti album, it seems like another win for both Puma and the pop icon.
Meanwhile, Bolt is preparing for another historic run at this year’s summer Olympics. He’ll have only himself to compete with when it comes to breaking records. And turning 30 this year means Bolt is likely nearing the end of what has been an incredible sprinting career.
