Very rarely do the words “Adam Sandler” and “critically acclaimed film” go together in the same sentence. But sure enough, Adam Sandler is appearing in a film that is getting rave reviews for both the film and his performance. The Meyerowitz Stories stars Sandler, Ben Stiller, Elizabeth Marvel, Dustin Hoffman, and Emma Thompsom. It first garnered attention at the Cannes Film Festival and is now on its way to our screens. What time does The Meyerowitz Stories come out on Netflix? When is The Meyerowitz Stories’ release date? We’ll cover why an Adam Sandler Netflix movie is getting cheers instead of jeers from critics, and when you will be able to get to see it, right here.

A Great Pedigree for a Comedy Drama

The Meyerowitz Stories is a film by Noah Baumbach, the filmmaker behind The Squid and the Whale and Frances Ha, as well as his work as a screenwriter working with Wes Anderson on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

The Meyerowitz Stories is a comedy-drama that centers around an acclaimed sculptor named Harold Meyerowitz (Dustin Hoffman) and his children, Danny (Adam Sandler), Matthew (Ben Stiller), and Jean (Elizabeth Marvel). Danny is a failed musician who dedicated his life to raising his daughter, Eliza (Grace Van Patten). She’s headed to college and Danny isn’t sure who he is without her. He hangs out with his dad, whose praise has been reserved for Matthew, a super-agent in L.A. We follow the family through a series of events that is best left for you to discover by watching it.

While many of the characters are definitely outlandish or exaggerated, they feel like real people. The world they inhabit feels lived in. Baumbach created a film that has some really well-written dramatic moments, with a balance of some genuinely laugh out loud scenes.

Critical Acclaim

From its first screenings, The Meyerowitz Stories began getting rave reviews. So much so, that Netflix picked up the distribution rights very quickly! The film competed for the Palme d’Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Adam Sandler, in particular, is getting great reviews for his performance in the film. In The Meyerowitz Stories, he abandons his usual schtick and boyish mannerisms, allowing his acting talent to shine through.
