Possibly one of the biggest mid-season premieres of 2016, The Blacklist season 3 episode 9, titled The Director, will finally air tonight (January 7) and you can watch it live at 9/8c on NBC. The latest episode in this acclaimed crime television series shows Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone) being threatened by Cabal, the mysterious organization that’s trying to kill Red (James Spader). While she approaches her trial, Red, along with Liz’s associate Aram (Amir Arison), takes strong measures to ensure her safety. If you don’t have access to cable tonight, you can also click here to watch the episode’s live stream on NBC.
In the fall finale of season 3, Liz rescued Raymond “Red” Reddington from a team of highway kidnappers by making a deal, but the plan goes awry and instead, Liz gets captured by the FBI. There were several major unanticipated twists in the episode that piqued viewers’ curiosity and teased their predictions—like when FBI agent Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) and liaison Samar (Mozhan Marno) fall apart as Samar opts to help Liz without telling Ressler, and when Reven Wright (Adriane Lenox) goes to the home of government exec Laurel Hitchin (Christine Lahti) about Solomon, a former CIA asset, but gets shot point blank by Hitchin.

In tonight’s mid-season premiere episode, The Director: Part 1, Red creates a crime scene to retrieve his true allies around Liz while she’s in the FBI’s custody, as she faces grave danger from Cabal and from one of its high-ranking execs, Peter Kotsiopulos (David Strathairn) AKA the Director and head of the US National Clandestine Service. In the sneak-peek of the episode, Hitchin is seen telling the Director that he has three hours to make Liz disappear before she reaches the trials.
Creator and executive producer of The Blacklist, Jon Bokenkamp, added that the show returns with the two-part episode committed to the Director’s plans. Bokenkamp also hinted that Red has been laying a great plan since season two, and now, with Aram’s help, they will pull off this plan and hopefully save Liz.
Will Red’s plan actually work, though? Find out by catching The Blacklist season 3 episode 9 tonight, Thursday, January 7 at 9 p.m. EST, or click here to watch it streamed live on NBC.
