Vanessa Williams’ victorious return to the Miss America stage may not be going ahead as previously planned. As reported earlier this week, the star was selected to be the head judge for the pageant on September 13. But the pageant’s officials have reportedly hit a blind spot and it has to do with, of course, her now infamous nude photos that Penthouse magazine made public, resulting in Williams losing her Miss America crown and tarnishing her image in the process. That happened over 30 years ago, but it’s still causing a problem.

Although Williams initially agreed to move past the scandal and be a judge for this year’s Miss America pageant, the “Save the Best for Last” singer is still reportedly at odds with the officials over the coveted crown, because it seems that her appearance was subject to a verbal on-air apology from officials to Williams for having forced her to resign, followed by once again handing her the crown.

As luck would have it, presenting the crown to Vanessa Williams is easier said than done, because there’s reportedly been a misunderstanding between the pageant officials and the star’s camp. The officials have created a furor over the apology to Williams, because they thought that it would be the other way around, with Vanessa apologizing to them, before she got her crown back.

It does seem a little far-fetched to think that Williams would be the one to apologize for what happened, but according to TMZ, both sides have kind of reached a stalemate. However, the network has been promoting her big comeback non-stop, so pulling her appearance now probably wouldn’t go over very well.
