Ryan Guzman made his name in Hollywood in 2012 after appearing as Sean, the leader of a flash mob dance crew, in the fourth installment of the Step Up film franchise. (He also reprised the role in 2014’s Step Up All In.) But since then, he’s shown that he’s got the acting chops to take his career even further. In addition to his recurring role on the hit series Pretty Little Liars and being one of the lead stars in the show Heroes Reborn, Guzman also stars in the upcoming comedy movie Everybody Wants Some.
Guzman recently took to Instagram to share the first, newly released poster for the film, adding in the caption, “Prepare yourself! #2016 #April15th [sic].” The poster is pretty simple with just a plain white background and a cartoon drawing of an audio cassette with the tape pulled out, which makes sense seeing as how the movie title was borrowed from a popular song by rock band Van Halen.
The movie—which, as you may have guessed from Guzman’s post, comes out on April 15—is the work of writer/director Richard Linklater, and is pegged as the “spiritual sequel” to his 1993 blockbuster Dazed and Confused. But unlike the earlier film, which was about a group of high school students in the mid-‘70s, Everybody Wants Some is reportedly set in 1980 at the start of the school year and will follow a group of college friends who have all the freedom and responsibilities that come with unsupervised adulthood.
Linklater has also described the film as being a sequel to his Oscar-winning movie Boyhood. “I don’t know if one film can be a sequel to two different movies, but it begins right where Boyhood ends with a guy showing up at college and meeting his new roommates and a girl,” Linklater explained in a recent interview. “It overlaps with the end of Boyhood.”
In Everybody Wants Some, Ryan Guzman will be playing the part of Roper, presumably one of the guys from the main group of friends. Meanwhile, the actor will be continuing his role as Carlos Gutierrez/El Vengador when Heroes Reborn starts up again on January 7.
