Rolling Stones member Keith Richards has a reputation for being a drug abuser in the past decades. The English musician has been in court five times for drug-related charges in the past. He also confessed to quitting cocaine in 2006.

Now, The Rolling Stones rock star talks about his fondness for marijuana—he has admitted to being a regular pot smoker, often beginning his day with a joint, even though back in 2010 he said he had quit everything. “I smoke regularly, an early morning joint. Strictly Californian,” he told MOJO magazine.

Richards is glad that America is slowly legalizing weed. He recalls looking at a map of the states where the drug is now legal—the 71-year-old says that one of the most pleasant things to watch is the map of America and “where it goes, green… green… green.” Although he isn’t sure about the long-term effects of this, he still enjoys a smoke under the early morning sun, and from the sounds of it, he has no intention of stopping.

Richards also opened up about his co-band member, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. Richards says that they have become as good as brothers in the past 53 years. Although he enjoys a good “joust” with Jagger, at the end of the day they remain “mates.”
