Roger Moore’s Early Life

Sir Roger George Moore was born in Stockwell, London on October 14, 1927. He was an only child and his father was a police officer. Before he became an actor, Moore was interested in becoming a painter, but later attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. While at RADA, he became classmates with future James Bond co-star, Lois Maxwell, the original Miss Moneypenny.

The James Bond franchise is the most famous of Roger Moore’s films. Although he starred in other films, there are none more notable than his charming and charismatic interpretation of the famous English spy. From bedding various women to learning Q’s many gadgets, Moore was arguably the best Bond throughout the entire film franchise. Moore was the third actor to don the James Bond mantle and continued the role from 1973’s Live and Let Die to 1985’s A View to Kill. Roger Moore’s Wives

Moore was married four times and divorced three times: Skater Doorn Van Steyn in 1953, English singer Dorothy Squires in 1969, and in 2000, his third and final divorce was from Italian actress Luisa Mattioli, the mother of Roger Moore’s kids, Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian. In 2002, Roger married a fourth and final time to Swedish socialite, Kristina Tholstrup.

Tholstrup and Moore started dating in the ’90s and were neighbors in the south of France. They had bonded over their cancers (her having breast cancer and him having prostate cancer) and eventually began dating by way of a mutual friend. Tholstrup was friends with Mattioli, who felt betrayed that her friend was dating her ex-husband at the time. There were rumors that Tholstrup and Moore were having an affair but after years of stalling the divorce, Mattioli finally signed the documents. Moore was also a kind and attentive stepfather to Tholstrup’s daughter, Christina Knudson, whom he called Flossie. Moore and Tholstrup cared for Knudson until she died of cancer at the age of 47, in 2016.

Roger Moore’s Death

On Tuesday, Moore’s family announced via Twitter that their father had died after a brave battle with cancer. As per his wishes, he will be buried in Monaco, according to The Independent.

“Thank you Pops for being you, and for being so very special to so many people. Our thoughts must now turn to supporting Kristina at this difficult time, and in accordance with our father’s wishes there will be a private funeral in Monaco.”
