Radiohead’s lead singer, Thom Yorke, and his girlfriend of 23 years, Rachel Owen, have amicably parted ways. They initially surprised everyone when they maintained one of the longest relationships in the rock-n-roll business, and now news of their separation is unfortunate.
Yorke, 46, said to NME in a statement that after 23 “highly creative and happy years,” the two decided to go their separate ways amicably, adding that this was “common knowledge” for quite a while now.
The former couple has two children together, 14-year-old Noah and 11-year-old Agnes, who are currently holidaying abroad with their mother. Meanwhile, Yorke will be on tour for his solo album Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, which opened in Tokyo on August 14.
Yorke will reportedly split his $30 million fortune with Owen, whom he met and began dating while studying at Exeter University. It’s believed that the the mother of his children will also keep their home in Oxfordshire, which is worth over $4.5 million.
Owen had been by the musician’s side since Radiohead, often described as “The Beatles of the 21st century,” was first formed in the mid-‘80s. There is no word on what triggered the couple’s breakup.
With the split out of the way, Yorke can now focus on his music. In addition to his solo album, the singer also has his hands full working with Radiohead on their ninth album. According to the band’s drummer Philip Selway, they’re undoubtedly going to have “quite a full schedule” with this new project come September.
