Weird Celebrity Facts

Celebrities are human, just like the rest of us, so they’re bound to have embarrassing secrets and strange pasts—that’s just part of life. For instance, remember that one time Johnny Depp, one of Hollywood’s most talented and versatile actors who’s no stranger to creepy or quirky roles, revealed his fear of clowns? Would you have ever guessed someone with Depp’s level of confidence would suffer from coulrophobia (the fancier word for a clown fear)? It may seem out of the ordinary for someone with his confidence, but like I said, celebrities are human, too.

Take a look at a few more unknown and strange facts about celebrities that may blow your mind away!

Jennifer Lopez

The singer and actress once revealed that when she was filming Money Train alongside Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes, both men hit on her but she politely declined. In a later interview, JLo revealed that Snipes didn’t take it so well. He refused to talk to her for two whole months after that! JLo, being JLo, had a few choice words for him that may cause Snipes to give her the cold shoulder again.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt is one half of “Brangelina” and one of Hollywood’s hottest stars; that’s no secret. But did you know that this handsome face had to hide itself back in the day? Pitt’s first job ever: a chicken mascot for a fast food restaurant! Seems like such a shame, but it’s also proof that not all celebrities were always rich and famous; Pitt is one of the few who really started from the bottom.

Madonna

Another star having risen to fame on talent anddrive, the Queen of Pop, Madonna, has always been a fiery spirit. When she worked as a waitress at Dunkin’ Donuts in her earlier days, Madonna squirted jelly on a customer! Perhaps they deserved it, but needless to say, Madonna was fired. Even the Queen of Pop can’t get away with everything.

Chuck Norris

The martial arts master is famously the butt of all “Chuck Norris facts” jokes (though he loves them) and is an Internet meme sensation. Shockingly, though, “Chuck” isn’t the 75-year-old legend’s real name! Norris was born with the name “Carlos Ray” and acquired the nickname “Chuck” when he trained in Tang Soo Do (tangsudo). Just imagine if he’d trained somewhere else; Carlos Ray Norris doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is one of the best comedic actors of all time, but unknown to many, he had a difficult upbringing. While at school in Ontario, Canada, his family was so hard on money that he dropped out and got a job as a janitor at a steel mill. The family of six lived in a van at the time and Carrey even confessed that had his show business career not worked out, he would probably still be working at the Dofasco steel mill.

Sarah Jessica Parker

The Sex and the City fashion maven has a family tree with some pretty interesting roots. Not long ago, SJP discovered one of her ancestors was thought to be a witch during the historical Salem witch trials in 1692 and 1693. Ironically, Parker played the part of a Salem witch in her 1993 gig Hocus Pocus.

Channing Tatum

Ever wonder where Channing Tatum got all the moves for his recent role as Magic Mike? Tatum’s career first entered a small spotlight as a dancer in Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” music video. After that, Tatum modeled and shot TV commercials, but that’s not what made him perfect for the role. Besides being easy on the eyes, Tatum actually worked as a stripper for eight months in real life (unrelated to his movie role at that time) under the name Chan Crawford.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry is a BIG name in Hollywood and she has made waves in the industry. But what if we told you that wasn’t her legal name—at least not until recently. It would be weird to call this actress Maria Berry, right? It took them five years, but thankfully, Halle’s parents legally swapped her first name, Maria, for her middle name, Halle. The Bond girl was named after Halle’s department store, which was a landmark in the city of Cleveland, Ohio, her birthplace, when she was born.

Leighton Meester

Famous for her Gossip Girl role as Blair Waldorf, Leighton Meester has a secret that is probably the oddest of them all—she was born in prison! Well, sort of. The actress’ mother was behind bars in a federal jail due to involvement in a scandalous drug ring that was smuggling marijuana from Jamaica into the U.S. After giving birth, Meester’s mother took care of her daughter for three months at a halfway house before having to go back to jail and serve the rest of her sentence. Regardless, Meester claims her mother was always there for her and has turned her life around.

Ryan Gosling

A Mickey Mouse Clubber in the days of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, and A.J. McLean, it’s no secret the Hey Girl hunk can sing. What might you not know? Ryan Gosling was actually invited to be part of 90s boy band Backstreet Boys! He turned down the part, thinking they were a little late to the game after New Kids on the Block, but let’s just think for a moment what BSB would be like with Gosling. When asked if he regretted the decision, Gosling simply says “that ship has sailed.”
