Third Presidential Debate: Who Is Winning, Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump?

The debate kicked off on a more serious note, compared to the second town hall debate, with moderator Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday urging the audience not to applaud, or boo the candidates. The clashes in the policies of the Democrat and Republican candidates stood out more than ever, with their radically different positions on gun control, the Supreme Court, and abortions.

Second Amendment and Supreme Court

While Clinton stated that the court should “stand on the side of the American people, not on the side of powerful corporations and the wealthy,” Trump criticized Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for her recent remarks of the Republican presidential nominee. As for the Second Amendment, Clinton outright denied that she opposed the right of Americans to bear and keep arms, but called for better firearm legislation, and comprehensive background checks, citing the numerous accidents caused by guns falling into the hands of toddlers. Trump insisted that the Second Amendment will be a “small replica of what we have now” if Clinton wins.

Abortion Laws and Russia

On the topic of abortion, Clinton fiercely defended women’s rights to choose, backing Planned Parenthood, and the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision. Meanwhile, Trump criticized Clinton’s statements saying, “You can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb in the ninth month.” The candidates were also at odds concerning Russia, with Clinton calling out Trump for being a “puppet” of Russian president Vladimir Putin, condemning the cyber attacks being used to tip the election in Trump’s favor. This was said in reply to Trump’s statement that Putin had no respect for President Barack Obama, or Clinton, where she said, “That’s because [Putin] would rather have a puppet as president of the United States.”
