For any Pokémon Go player, life would be easier if they lived in closer proximity to as many Pokéstops as possible. And, if they live near anything that could be considered a landmark and can make a strong case, they can do just that by adding a Pokéstop nearby. Want to know how to add a Pokéstop? Or rather, how to request a Pokéstop? Can you even do either in the first place? If you want to know how you can influence your Pokéworld for the better (or YOUR better, at least), read on as we’ll explain requesting that Pokémon Go add a gym or Pokéstop to your community.

Pokémon Go: Add a Gym or Pokéstop

In Pokémon Go, Pokéstops are a trainer’s lifeblood, as they are the best means of acquiring the necessary items, including Poké balls, healing potions, Razz Berries to make a Pokémon easier to catch and sometimes even an egg, which will hatch once you’ve walked a specific distance and provide you with another Pokémon to add to your lineup. Lures can also be used on a Pokéstop to catch Pokémon, including those not on the “nearby” list, at an increased rate for a small period of time.

Gyms are where your Pokémon can fight those of others, with success being determined by type differences and each Pokémon’s combat power (CP). If your team is currently in command of a gym and space is available, you can possible make one of your Pokémon one of the three that players of other teams will have to beat to take control of the gym. And if another team controls a gym, you can fight to take control of it. Aside from the sense of pride that would come from returning home from work and seeing you still control the gym you took over that morning, having your Pokémon fight for the gym can earn you Poké Coins to buy items; the only other way to acquire these items is with actual money.

How to Create a Pokéstop

When asking yourself how to create a Pokéstop, consider that they and gyms are generally based at major locations, such as churches, historic businesses, and popular landmarks. The initial results were based off of Ingress, a previous game by Pokémon Go’s developer, Niantic, which also used GPS and live data and served as the basis for Pokémon Go’s map.

Recently, Niantic briefly made it possible for people to contact them, which served as the primary means of how to request a gym in Pokémon Go, as well as how to make a Pokéstop. The button flat-out said, “How do I create a new PokeStop or gym?” and required the person to submit info about the location, including its name, location type, address, and a photo. However, the request feature is no longer available; this is either because the process was abused too much, like what happened with Ingress, or because, like with the app itself, they simply weren’t prepared for such a high demand.

But that doesn’t mean there’s no hope of making your desire for a new Pokéstop a reality. Still wish to know how to add a Pokéstop? Well, some players have gotten around the request feature being disabled by submitting help requests and complain forms only to use the options to request that Pokémon Go add a gym instead. While it has yet to be proven if Niantic has listened to anyone using this method and accepted it as a means of how to request a Pokéstop, it’s certainly a better option than doing nothing. And if you’re a business owner, there’s still a more credible means of requesting to add a Pokéstop or gym as Niantic has announced plans to let companies pay to turn their business into one such location as a means of attracting customers.

And it’s possible that Niantic will open requests up again soon, if only because they might need to, as numerous Pokéstops and gyms have suddenly disappeared from the map. For more information on this recent happening, you can read our article about it here.
