Justin Drew Bieber, (born March 1, 1994) is known all over the world as Justin Bieber, the pop music sensation. In 2007, when Bieber was 12 years old, he sang Ne-Yo’s “So Sick” at a local singing competition and placed second. His mother uploaded his singing video on YouTube along with other videos of the young Justin singing covers of R&B songs, and soon, Bieber became a YouTube sensation.
Scooter Braun, an executive at So So Def Recordings, was looking for new artists on YouTube when he came across Bieber’s 2007 video by accident. Impressed by the boy’s singing, Braun tracked Bieber down. After much hesitation, Bieber’s mother let her son go to Georgia with Braun. In Atlanta, Georgia, Bieber recorded a few demo tapes with Braun. Braun also introduced Bieber to Usher, who wanted to sign the teen, but at the time, so did Justin Timberlake. Both Usher and Timberlake started out as teen pop stars and were greatly interested in Bieber, who had the potential to be a success. After a bidding war, Usher won and signed Bieber to Def Jam Records. Bieber then moved to Atlanta with his mother to pursue a music career and Scooter Braun became his manager in 2008.
Bieber dropped his debut single, “One Time” on the radio, while he was still recording his debut album. The song became a commercial success internationally, getting certified gold in the U.S. and platinum in Canada. He released an extended play, My World, including promotional singles that charted in Billboard Hot 100. From then on, Bieber went on to promote his music on various talk shows. He also performed for President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House’s Christmas in Washington, which aired on December 20, 2009. He also performed at Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve that same year, and was a presenter at the 2010 Grammy Awards. He was also one of the many performers who sang the remake of Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie’s “We are the World” on the song’s 25th anniversary.
In January 2010, Bieber released the single “Baby” (featuring Ludacris) from his debut album, My World 2.0. The song became an international hit and My World 2.0. debuted at #1 on Billboard 200, making Bieber the youngest solo male act to top the chart since Stevie Wonder. Bieber’s music video for “Baby” also surpassed Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” in number of views on YouTube.
Justin Bieber’s Family
Bieber was born and raised in the small town of Stratford in Ontario, Canada to Jeremy Jack Bieber and Patricia “Pattie” Mallette. Bieber’s father worked as a carpenter and was a former pro-am mixed martial artist. Bieber’s parents were never married and his father wasn’t part of his life since he was a toddler. Pattie raised her son with the help of her mother and working low-income jobs. However, Justin maintained contact with his father and Jeremy Bieber later returned to his life. Now, he is part of Bieber’s entourage. The 22-year-old also has two half siblings; eight-year-old Jazmyn and seven-year-old Jaxon.
Bieber attended a French immersion elementary school called the Jeanne Sauvé Catholic School in Ontario. As a child, he learned to play the piano, drums, trumpet and guitar, which was highly encouraged by his mother. Pattie Mallette detailed her life story in her autobiography, Nowhere But Up. In the book, she said she had an interest in singing and acting. She appeared on local television programs and theater acts. When she was 15 years old, she met Jeremy Bieber. Mallette and Bieber maintained a relationship after Justin was born, but eventually split up. Mallette formerly worked as Justin’s manager but has now become an author and film producer.
At the age of 22, Justin Bieber has amassed a net worth of $200 million.
Music sales, concerts, endorsements, and YouTube hits contribute to his income. His recent album and tour’s commercial success contributed to his wealth, as well. The album sales for his chart-topper, Purpose (2015) made him around $18 million, the sales from his Purpose World Tour raked in $19 million.
Bieber is also a silent investor of various technology start-ups like Spotify. Bieber also has endorsement deals with Adidas and Calvin Klein. Between 2011 and 2014, Bieber launched four fragrances, “Someday,” “Girlfriend,” “The Key,” and Justin Bieber’s signature Collector’s Edition fragrance. Bieber has also purchased many properties over the years. He owned a home in Calabasas, which he later put up for sale. The home is now owned by Khloe Kardashian. He also owned a condo in Beverly Hills. However, after his neighbors complained about nuisance from Bieber, he moved to a new bachelor pad in Hollywood Hills. The couple has had an on-and-off relationship since 2011. With the media trying to get their hands on any tidbit of information about the pair’s love life, news of an engagement and pregnancy started to hit the rumor mill, as well, though none of them stuck. In between their many break-ups, Bieber has dated other girls, including Hailey Baldwin and Sofia Richie.
While dating Richie, Bieber had asked his fans to stop harassing her on Instagram. The controversy took a new turn when Selena Gomez commented on a post, slamming Bieber for being mad at the fans, leading to public argument on Bieber’s Instagram with the former couple accusing each other of cheating. Bieber deleted his Instagram account after the drama. Bieber and Richie broke up in September 2016.
There were rumors of Bieber and Gomez rekindling their relationship after news surfaced that he visited Gomez in rehab, where she was dealing with depression. However, the rumors were never confirmed. Bieber has also dated Transformers actress, Nicola Peltz, British model Jayde Pierce, Chantel Jeffries, and Barbara Palvin. Bieber has also been linked to Kourtney Kardashian, Miranda Kerr, and Adriana Lima. His rumored hook-up with Kerr led to a brawl between him and Kerr’s ex-husband, Orlando Bloom.
