The latest Lifetime movie is airing tonight and it’s a doozy! You might remember the disturbing case of Oscar Pistorius, the Paralympic sprinter who accidentally shot his girlfriend in 2013. He was convicted of her murder and is serving a six-year sentence, which could see him released in 2019. The Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer cast features many talented actors making this one Lifetime movie you don’t want to miss!

Who is Oscar Pistorius?

The world was shocked back in 2013 when the story broke of how famed and beloved South African paralympian, Oscar Pistorius, was found guilty of manslaughter following the horrific, tragic, and unexpected death of his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day. Pistorius, who was famously nicknamed ‘The Blade Runner’ after competing on the world stage as the first ever double-leg amputee in the Olympics, was originally sentenced to five years in prison, but he was released on probation after only serving one year. Eventually, the original verdict was overturned in a South African court of appeals case and he was sentenced to six years in prison, instead. Much to the chagrin of the Steenkamp family and people around the world, Lifetime has decided to make a movie depicting Pistorius’s rise to fame and subsequent, infamy.

Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer Trailer

Many people think this movie serves a grave injustice to the memory of Reeva Steenkamp and the perpetually grieving family, friends, and fan base she left behind.  The truth is that it’s hard to determine exactly what happened on the night of February 14, 2013 because Steenkamp and Pistorius were alone in the house during the time of the alleged incident. On top of that, his testimony, which serves as the only witness to the tragic and untimely death of his girlfriend, have been muddled by a great deal of trauma, uncertainty, backtracking, and perhaps even memory lapses.

Whether or not the movie will be a fair and honest depiction of the events prior to and following the alleged murder, it seems some people are already outraged by the seemingly sympathetic portrayal shown in the Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer trailer.
