The media mogul will be seen in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (2017) and The Star (2017), along with A Wrinkle in Time in 2018. Here’s a look into Oprah Winfrey’s new movies for 2017.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
Academy Award Nominee, Oprah Winfrey stars in the upcoming HBO drama, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The film is an adaption of the book of the same name by Rebecca Skloot. It’s a biopic that documents the story of Henrietta Lacks, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer in the 1950s and had cancer cells (later known as HeLa) that helped change the course of her cancer treatment.

But there is more to the story; something dark and unknown until a writer comes along and digs up information for her book. The movie tells the true story of Henrietta Lacks through the eyes of her daughter, Deborah Lacks played by Oprah Winfrey, with Rose Byrne portraying Rebecca Skloot, the writer. The film is directed by George C. Wolfe and will air on HBO on April 22, 2017.
The Star
Next, Oprah Winfrey will be featured in The Star. This is an animated film directed by Timothy Reckart. The story revolves around the life of a donkey named Bo and his animal friends, who become the unsung heroes of the first Christmas. Oprah Winfrey lends her voice to the character Deborah, a camel.
Other major stars in the movie are Steven Yeun as Bo, Kelly Clarkson as Leah the horse, and Tyler Perry as Cyrus the camel. Initially called The Lamb, The Star is scheduled to hit the theaters on November 10, 2017.
A Wrinkle in Time
Following the release of The Star, Oprah Winfrey will have another upcoming movie set to be released in 2018. A Wrinkle in Time is a Disney production shot in New Zealand. The movie is based on the fantasy novel by Madeleine L’Engle and is directed by Ava DuVernay.
The plot centers around the daughter of a government scientist, who is sent on a mission by three mysterious women to find her father after his sudden disappearance. The mysterious women are played by Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling. Other cast members include Zach Galifianakis, Chris Pine, and Michael Peña. The film is scheduled to be released on April 6, 2018 in IMAX.
Oprah Winfrey has been a media personality from a long, long time now. She started off as a young news anchor in Nashville.
