Hulk Hogan may be outed from the WWE, but it’s still a huge reason why he’s such a big celebrity today. For many fans, he’ll always be known as the wrestling legend, which is why his recent throwback post on Facebook about another WWE icon—Dwayne Johnson—resonated with so many of his followers.
Hogan reminisced about when Johnson was only known as “The Rock” during 2000’s WWE Armageddon fight. The former pro-wrestler shared a link from his personal web site to remind fans of the hilarious promo that Johnson filmed prior to the highly anticipated showdown.
The world was about to see one of the most intense Late Attitude Era matches, “Hell In A Cell,” on December 10, 2000 between six top wrestlers: The Rock, the Undertaker, Steve Austin, Rikishi, Triple H, and Kurt Angle (who later went on to win the championship).
Weeks prior to the event, The Rock appeared for a promo on Monday Night Raw and it was said to be one of the best promos he ever put out. Johnson put on an extremely animated performance by mocking the other opponents. He riled up fans with his catchphrases, “If you smell what The Rock is cooking,” and, “Finally, The Rock has come back to New Jersey.” Johnson also added that he would “layeth the smackethdown” at the upcoming WWE fight and went on to imitate Angle, Rikishi, The Undertaker, and Triple H. Upon further cheer from the crowd, Johnson went on to make fun of Steve Austin by donning his opponent’s favorite cap and ended the promo with his signature sunglasses and raised eyebrow.
With over 2,000 likes and 60 shares, we now know why Hogan captioned his post, “This promo has me laughing, one of his greatest. HH.”
While Hulk Hogan is reminiscing about his WWE days, Dwayne Johnson hinted that he’s been busy with a big new project. The wrestler-turned-actor posted a picture on Instagram earlier this morning of him standing in front of a plane with the caption, “That’s a wrap on a huge campaign! Very long work days, but new partnerships aligned and big business accomplished.” Johnson also added that he’ll be sharing “the big announcement” in the next week or so.
