Rumors are afloat that there is an interesting new lady in actor Brad Pitt’s life, and not only is she beautiful, but she’s also smart. Her name is Neri Oxman, and she is a professor at MIT. Oxman is an American-Israeli architect, designer, and professor at the MIT Media Lab where she is the leader of the Mediated Matter research group.

Pitt, who has a strong passion for architecture and design met Oxman through an MIT architecture project and has become good friends with her since then.

A source told Page Six TV, “Brad and Neri instantly hit it off because they share the same passion for architecture, design, and art. This is best described as a professional friendship.”

“Their friendship has not turned into romance … as both are cautious … but Brad is very interested in spending more time with Neri, she is fascinating,” the source added.

Neri Oxman’s Early Life

Born in 1976, in Haifa, Israel, to her architect parents Rivka and Robert Oxman, Neri Oxman’s age is 41.

Oxman grew up getting good exposure to “nature and culture” as she spent time in her grandmother’s garden and her parent’s architectural studio.

Neri Oxman’s Education

In 1997, Oxman moved to Jerusalem to study at Hebrew University’s Hadassah Medical School. But she changed her field of study to architecture after two years and enrolled at the Technion.

Oxman continued her education at the London Architectural Association School of Architecture and graduated in 2004.

In 2005, Oxman joined the architecture Ph.D. program at MIT in Boston, Massachusetts. She became an associate professor there in 2010.

Neri Oxman’s husband is classical music composer Osvaldo Golijov. The couple got married in 2011, but not much else is known about their relationship.

Neri Oxman’s Career

Oxman’s projects combine design, biology, computers, and materials engineering. Her work has elements of environmental design and digital morphogenesis, where the shapes and properties are defined by their context.

The designer calls her work, “material ecology,” which is placing materials in context.

Inspired by Nature

Oxman’s projects are brightly colored and contain textured surfaces with a structure at many scales. And the color, shape, and hardness of composite materials vary over the objects.

Her work has been inspired by nature and biology.

Neri Oxman’s Projects

Many of Oxman’s projects utilize 3D printing and fabrication techniques, such as the Silk Pavilion, spun by silkworms released onto a nylon frame.

Meanwhile, Ocean Pavilion is a water-based fabrication platform that builds structures out of chitosan using G3DP (the first 3D printer for optically transparent glass), with a set of glasswork produced by it.

Exhibitions Draw Admirers

Oxman’s work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art and Boston’s Museum of Science.

They include sample surfaces, furniture, objects that could be worn or put on display, and temporary and interactive installations.

Oxman has won many awards for her work over the years, like the Vilcek Prize in Design, the Carnegie “Pride of America” Award, an Innovation by Design Award – Fast Company, a MIT Collier Medal, the Earth Award for Future-Crucial Design, and the Holcim Foundation Next Generation Award.

The architect has been called “a person ahead of her time, not of her time.” Her work has been described as “shatteringly different from anything before.”
