The Red Hot Chili Peppers and their fans are celebrating the wedding of the band’s bassist, Michael Balzary, aka Flea. The musician tied the knot over the weekend with fashion maven Melody Ehsani, before they revealed the amazing news on their respective Instagram accounts. Melody Ehsani Has a Persian Heritage
Born in Los Angeles, California on March 27, 1980, Melody Ehsani is an American. Nonetheless, she’s proud of the Iranian-Baha’i heritage she and her younger brother, Asher Ehsani, inherited from their parents.
In a few social media posts, Melody has mentioned her parents were immigrants. Her father passed away when she was 10 years old, but her mother taught her everything about their culture.

Melody occasionally posts pictures of her mother serving some stunning Persian fashion looks in throwbacks. So we can tell where she gets her style from.
Growing up, Melody wasn’t safe from ignorant racism. But her pride in her culture and heritage didn’t waver.
In fact, everything her mother has taught her about the Persian culture, as well her own experiences growing up with it, influences Melody’s designs.

Ehsani Chose Fashion over Law School
While most of her Persian-American peers were choosing science, medicine, or law, Melody Ehsani knew that it wasn’t for her.
“I’ve been taught that if you want to be respected, and noble, and want to contribute to society, you have to do science, or law, or medicine, or something along those lines. But I learned and realized that there’s nobility in everyone’s art and purpose, that art indeed has nobility, and my whole mind shifted,” said Ehsani.
After graduating from college at 23, she had applied to law school like a number of her cousins and friends. She interned on Capitol Hill at the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights and worked as a paralegal for a private firm.
But she couldn’t go through with that plan and dropped out of law school after a week. Initially unsure of what to do, a meeting with a medical intuitive led Ehsani to take classes at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
Drawn to design, she began an internship at a sneaker company and learned how to create footwear, jewelry, and other products. She had a highly successful collaboration with Reebok to release a line of sneakers and became famous for her signature three-finger ring.

Ehsani Is the First Woman to Own a Store on Fairfax Avenue
Inspired by her culture, Melody Ehsani strives to be a role model for other women with her jewelry that encourages self-expression. She further stands out for the inspirational messages in her product packaging and in some of her designs.
But her biggest achievement in the business is becoming the first woman to set up her own store in L.A.’s streetwear and skateboarding hub, Fairfax Avenue. And it makes Ehsani’s M.E. shop the perfect place to host discussions on social issues as part of her “Speaker Series,” which included a special Serena Williams’ Collection Pop-up Experience in December 2018.
Among her many innovative collections, Ehsani has collaborated with Chicago’s Asrai Garden for a floral-inspired capsule collection. She also collaborated with the popular Japanese brand Sanrio to create the M.E. x My Melody collection this year.
A look at her Instagram shows that Ehsani’s designs have tons of celebrity fans, including Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Erykah Badu, Kelly Rowland, and the Kar-Jenner clan.

Ehsani Married RHCP’s Flea
Part of the reason behind her initial legal career path was her family’s intention to get her married. Apparently, Persian women who study law make for great marriage candidates and Ehsani’s family was hoping she’d tie the knot soon.
“In Persian culture, it’s like your value is more determined by who you marry than what you do… [My family] started trying to make me get married. They tried to like figure out how they could set me up and arrange something, and it was a really hard time for me because it felt like I didn’t know who I had grown up with. Like it was all these cultural things that I started waking up to, that I was like, ’Holy s**t, these are the little underlying things that I’ve always thought but I couldn’t identify,’” said Ehsani.
It also weighed on Melody’s mind back then that she wasn’t close to settling down yet, while most Persian girls married early. However, it appears that taking her time has led to her finding the right one for her.
The lucky guy is Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Michael Balzary, who famously goes by Flea.
The couple tied the knot sometime during this past weekend, sharing the news afterwards on their respective Instagram pages.
The newlyweds look amazing, but Melody is a true vision in white. And from the looks of it, her eye-catching headpiece was inspired by her mother’s.

Flea and Ehsani largely kept their relationship on the down-low. So it’s not known when they began dating.
Flea was previously married to Loesha Zeviar, who is the mother of his 31-year-old daughter, Clara Belzary. He also has a teen daughter, Sunny Belzary, with his ex-fiancee, Frankie Rayder.
