Mary-Kate Olsen, 27, is now engaged to her much older man, 44-year-old Olivier Sarkozy, but the celebrity couple wasn’t always on the same page about marriage. Sarkozy reportedly prorposed last year, but Olsen “wasn’t ready” and turned him down. “She didn’t need to be wined and dined; she wanted to make sure he would be good to her,” an insider told Us Weekly.

Sarkozy must have proved to his famous young girlfriend that he was marriage material, because the celebrity couple was rumored to have gotten engaged at the end of February. The news was confirmed when Mary-Kate Olsen was spotted a few days later with a huge rock on that finger. The ring is believed to be a vintage Cartier piece with a four-carat diamond in the middle surrounded by 16 small sapphire stones set in gold; it was reportedly sold for just over $81,000.

With regards to their marriage plans, the celebrity couple reportedly hasn’t agreed on a date yet, because they’re at odds about how long they should wait to actually get married—Mary-Kate Olsen is ready to “marry and settle down as quickly as possible,” while Olivier Sarkozy, who has two kids from his first marriage, would prefer a longer engagement. “He’s been through a marriage already and had lovely kids, so he knows what it’s all about,” revealed another source.

On top of the date, the celebrity couple also has to decide on where to settle down once they do get married. Sarkozy is from France, but Olsen is based in the U.S.

What do you think: Would you prefer to get married quickly, or to enjoy a longer engagement?
