The Hollywood Chambers of Commerce have announced that eminent musician Mariah Carey, 45, will officially receive her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at a ceremony on August 5. Honorary speakers will include director Brett Ratner, director/producer Lee Daniels, and CEO of Epic Records L.A. Reid. Having worked with Ratner on over eight music videos, it comes as no surprise that he will speak at the ceremony. Carey also worked with friend Daniels on his 2013 film The Butler and can thank L.A. Reid for helping to relaunch her career with her 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi.
Carey expressed her gratitude on social media with a photograph of her Walk of Fame star: bright pink and glittery and embedded with her name and symbol for the recording category. The singer captioned it, “Super excited and feeling so humbled about my star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.” She also thanked her fans, giving them credit for “making this happen” for her.
Carey’s star is long overdue, given that she is possibly one of the most successful artists in the music industry. She has 18 number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, along with five Grammys and Billboard’s Artist of the Decade Award. The mother of two, who has sold millions of albums, also recently bagged a residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
There’s no word yet on whether or not Carey will invite her new beau, billionaire James Packer, to the Walk of Fame ceremony.
“But will beau James Packer be there? Mariah Carey says she’s ‘humbled’ as it’s announced she’ll receive her star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame,” Daily Mail web site, July 27, 2015; http://goo.gl/Pk6IJk.
