Action and combat are pretty common in films. Sex scenes, not so much, but those are there too (and hopefully done tastefully). The Legend of Tarzan, still scheduled for a July 1, 2016 release, apparently has both as recent behind-the-scenes details have revealed. However, for stars Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie, one of those two things got a little too real. So which was it?
To anyone familiar with the Tarzan franchise, the romance between Tarzan, King of the Apes, and Jane Porter isn’t news; the pair is together in nearly every iteration of the story; in the original books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the pair is married with a child. So, it should similarly come as no surprise that the new film would have a scene with the two getting down and dirty. Well, by the end of the scene, the only person down was Alexander Skarsgård—for the count!
According to Entertainment Weekly, at the suggestion of director David Yates, Margot Robbie was a bit tough on Skarsgård during the sex scene. Yates’ exact words were, “Just slap Alex while you’re making love, just kind of give him a punch.” Well, she took the advice to heart and, in the heat of the (simulated) moment, laid one on him hard enough to leave a bruise. Thankfully, that was the only injury the star received over the course of filming the movie, and as far as bruises go, there are certainly far worse ways to get one.
For those turned off by the romance in the movie, don’t worry; as the trailer we got earlier this month proved, there looks to be a lot more violence and fighting than sensual lovemaking. And since Margot Robbie was chosen specifically because she’s believable as someone who could fend for herself in the jungle, it’s likely she won’t be a damsel in distress this time and will get to kick some butt too—only this time, it’ll be on purpose!
