While some people hoped for Leonard “Len” Goodman’s departure announcement from Dancing with the Stars to be false, he has since confirmed the news.
The 71-year-old judge had been with the show for the past 20 seasons, ever since it premiered back in 2005. Last December, Goodman revealed his plans of possibly leaving and People magazine recently confirmed that the professional ballroom dancer and coach was bidding goodbye to the long-running series due to scheduling and other family commitments.
Producer of the dance show, Rob Wade, told the magazine that Goodman would not be returning this season due to “his schedule as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing in the U.K. and the birth of his new grandson.”
He added that fans might be in for a surprise, as the icon may still be involved in the 21st season in some capacity. “I am sure we will see Len in the ballroom again soon,” revealed Wade.
Goodman’s exit is the third news related to Dancing with the Stars this week. On August 18, former Mirror Ball Trophy winner Karina Smirnoff revealed her plans to return for season 21. The very same day, fellow judge Julianne Hough showed off a sparkling new ring on her finger, affirming her engagement to hockey player, Brooks Laich of the Washington Capitals.
