Sometimes it’s easy to forget that celebrities, being larger than life, were once kids too. And just like many less famous adults, a lot of stars are still kids at heart—a fact that LeBron James just reminded his fans of!
The NBA star recently posted a picture on Facebook. In it, James is smiling while looking at his phone during a break in filming. While there’s certainly nothing uncommon about a person looking at their phone in this day and age, what he was watching might raise some eyebrows: cartoons.
“When it’s funny and you want to laugh, but you don’t want everyone at work to know you’re watching Tom & Jerry…” wrote James in the comment below the photo, along with the hashtags “GrownKidProblems” and “IPROMISE.”
The first short having aired in 1940, Tom & Jerry’s fanbase apparently has a lot of overlap with LeBron James’, if the comments on the photo are any indication. A ton of fans admitted to still watching the show as well—including a 68-year-old—while others showed their support for the star player’s right to laugh. One fan encouraged James to “enjoy yourself guy you deserve this….laugh more!!! [sic]” Another noted, “Keep smiling Lebron because you look so good. [sic]”
James’ photo was taken during a break in shooting an ad for a joint venture between James’ charity, The LeBron James Family Foundation, and the University of Akron. The Foundation plans to award full scholarships to 200 children currently attending Akron’s public school system. With a donation that big, it’s unlikely anybody would give LeBron James a hard time for watching cartoons on the job!
