While some stars had the best year of their careers, it wasn’t such a good year for others. From Lamar Odom’s near-death overdose to Donald Trump’s controversial comments about Mexicans, these are the biggest celebrity downfalls of 2015.
Once known as a great NBA player and the famous husband of Khloe Kardashian, fans were stunned and heartbroken when the troubled star was found unconscious in a brothel after a suspected drug overdose in mid-October. After falling into a coma, being on life support, suffering more than one stroke, and even having his kidneys fail, Odom managed to survive. Although he’s slowly recovering, he still reportedly suffers from cognitive damage, along with a slew of other health concerns.
The real estate millionaire made a drastic career change when he announced in June that he was planning to run in the 2016 presidential election. And while he’s built a solid backing of supporters and climbing numbers on the polls, Trump’s campaign has been riddled with controversy from day one. It’s hard to forget his comments about how Mexican immigrants were “rapists” who were “bringing drugs” and crime into the U.S., and that we should build a “real wall” between the U.S. and Mexico.
Not only did Disick wind up in rehab, but his famous wife and the mother of his three children, Kourtney Kardashian, finally pulled the plug on their long-term relationship. The celebrity couple’s split came after his partying got out of hand and photos surfaced of him getting a little too close with one of his exes.
This one was definitely a shocker! In May 2015, a report was published that revealed Josh Duggar had molested five young, underage girls back in 2002-2003, and four of them were his own sisters. The explosive story was huge, because the family portrayed themselves as being devout Baptists on their TLC reality show, 19 Kids and Counting. And what’s worse, the parents knew about it. After the scandal went public, the series was cancelled and Duggar resigned from his position with The Family Research Council. Unfortunately that wasn’t the end of his downfall. A couple months later, Duggar’s name was on the list of leaked users who frequented the Ashley Madison web site for the purpose of having an affair—he eventually confessed to cheating on his wife. He then checked into a rehab facility.
After a number of women came forward (over 50 as of October 2015) claiming they were drugged and sexually harassed or abused by Cosby at some point, the comedian’s career has plummeted, and fast. On top of endless court cases, Cosby has also been dropped by his agent and has had several of his honorary degrees from universities retracted.
The reality star (from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) has had one brutal year. In April, she was charged with not only public intoxication and trespassing, but also for resisting arrest and battery against a police officer. She was released on bail after spending a night in jail and tried a few treatment facilities. After relapsing and making a fool of herself at her daughter’s wedding, Richards lost her Real Housewives gig and then got arrested again in early August, this time for shoplifting. Her family reportedly had her placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold and she checked into rehab again, only to end up taking off shortly afterward.
Bobbi Kristina Brown
This was by far the most heartbreaking downfall of the year. On January 31, Whitney Houston’s daughter was found face down in her bathtub—an eerie reminder of her mother’s shocking death three years ago. She was medically induced into a coma with diminished brain function and died on July 26. Although the medical examiner “classified the cause and manner of Bobbi Kristina Brown’s death,” many people still suspect that drugs may have been involved.
The journalist (and father of Girls star Allison Williams) was a staple on NBC Nightly News, but got suspended without pay for misrepresenting a story about the Iraq War and about him riding in a military helicopter that he says was “forced down after being hit by an RPG.” His story was refuted by crew members who were on the plane that really was hit—they claimed that the plane Williams was on didn’t actually arrive on the scene till at least a half hour later and “took no fire,” but rather “landed later beside the damaged helicopter due to an impending sandstorm from the Iraqi dessert.” Williams later apologized, but still hasn’t been able to really live down the blunder.
