Everything to Know About Katy Perry Buying the L.A. Convent

The Back Story

First, let’s get to know more about this convent and who runs it. The controversial estate is known as the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary convent of Los Feliz, Los Angeles. The convent is an eight-acre property and has been there for more than 40 years. It’s under the faithful governance of Jose Gomez, the Los Angeles Archbishop, and the remaining members of the Sisters of the Most Holy and the Immaculate Heart of Blessed Virgin Mary. As of today, the five sisters are the presiding nuns at this holy establishment and have been there for decades.

Katy Perry vs. Nuns

In May 2015, problems regarding the sale of this convent began surfacing. The issues involved these nuns—who claim that they own the conventgetting into deal with Dana Hollister and selling the estate for over $15.0 million. Hollister, who’s an established restaurateur, made a formal agreement with the nuns who were selling the convent.

Shockingly, it was later found out that the Archbishop had the legal rights to negotiate and sell the convent, not the nuns. Adding to this shocker, pop superstar Katy Perry became interested in buying the convent from the Archbishop and offered $14.5 million for it. Upon realizing the nuns’ agreement with Dana Hollister, the Archbishop filled legal action against the sisters.

Ruling In Katy’s Favor

The lawsuit was filed to protect the convent from actions of Hollister, who had made an unauthorized agreement with the nuns. Soon, Katy Perry got involved in the case, and the judge ruled an order favoring Perry’s chances of buying the convent. The nuns wanted Hollister to convert the convent into a restaurant, but Perry has decided to keep the convent running and may likely turn it into an orphanage.  On top of these Supreme Court orders, Katy Perry also has the willingness of the Archbishop to sell the convent exclusively to her.
