Kate Hudson is known for her talented acting, but the Hollywood star is also an avid supporter of science. In one of her latest Instagram posts, the 36-year-old revealed that she presented a Breakthrough Prize Award to one Karl Deisseroth on account of his massive contribution to science at only 43.
She shared a photo of herself on stage alongside Dropbox’s founder, Drew Houston, looking on as Deisseroth gave his speech, with the caption, “Wonderful evening presenting a Breakthrough Prize Award to Karl Deisseroth for his development and implementation of optogenetics. Which means… this man has made some absolutely incredible advancements in understanding the mysteries of our brains! I could write a paragraph about it but I will just hope that you google his name and see what amazing things our friend Karl is up to! [sic]” With over 8,000 likes in under an hour (and over 25,000 in total), Hudson clearly got the attention of more than a few people.
Not only that, she also achieved her goals of raising awareness and acknowledging the hardworking scientists, as followers left comments such as, “I got u. I googled. Thanks Karl! [sic]” Another follower wrote “Wow. I wonder if they can apply this type of research to Autism.” One fan even shared a story that made everyone realize how deserving Deisseroth is. He wrote, “Wow! I looked at his idea back in 2009/2010 when he was looking for seed capital. Crazy to see him on stage in this picture. Many congrats to Karl!”
Meanwhile, Hudson has been taking time off lately for herself and her family. In a recent Instagram post, she shared details of her girls’ night in with her sister-in-law, Erin Bartlett, where the two bonded over a bottle of wine that Hudson received as a gift from pal Reese Witherspoon. Yet another post showed the actress’ night out with Jessica Alba and a couple of other female friends to celebrate Alba’s The Honest Company.
