Johnny Depp has played a long list of memorable characters on the big screen, like the title character in Edward Scissorhands and Donnie Brasco, the enigmatic Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland, and Tonto in the 2013 remake of The Lone Ranger. It isn’t too often that Depp plays the role of a romantic hero, but off the screen, he’s quite the ladies’ man.
He first got married in 1983—a year before the release of his debut film, A Nightmare on Elm Street—but it came to an end two years later. He was then engaged twice after that to actresses, Jennifer Grey and Sherilyn Fenn, but neither relationship made it down the aisle. In 1990, things in the romance department started looking up when he proposed yet again, this time to his Edward Scissorhands co-star, Winona Ryder. The relationship didn’t quite last, but what did was the “WINONA FOREVER” tattoo he got on his arm—he later changed it to read “WINO FOREVER.”
Depp’s next romantic conquest was supermodel Kate Moss, whom he dated for four years before meeting Vanessa Paradis, a French actress and singer. Fourteen years and two kids later, Depp and Paradis called it quits in June 2012. Depp wasn’t too heartbroken—many speculated that the reason the relationship ended was because he was getting closer to his The Rum Diary co-star, Amber Heard. Not only is Heard 23 years younger than him, but she is also an open bi-sexual, and reportedly broke up with her long-time girlfriend to be with Depp. Despite endless break-up rumors, they seem to be making their relationship work, and have even discussed starting a family together.
