German basketball player Dirk Nowitzki is stepping off the NBA hardwood court after a 21-season career with the Dallas Mavericks. Nowitzki and his blended family cherish every bit of the legend’s stellar career in the league. He’ll now probably spend a lot more time with his wife, Jessica Olsson. If you haven’t checked out this fabulous WAG, we’ve got Jessica Olsson’s wiki for everything on Dirk Nowitzki’s wife.

Jessica Olsson Has Swedish and Kenyan Ancestry

Jessica Olsson was born to a Swedish father and Kenyan mother. Although she now lives in the United States with her family, Jessica Olsson’s nationality is Swedish.

Olsson has twin brothers who are professional soccer players. Marcus Olsson is a midfielder for Derby County in Derbyshire, England. His twin, Martin Olsson, plays for Swansea City as well as the Sweden National team.

Olsson and Nowitzki Met at a Charity Event

Olsson met Nowitzki in 2010 at a charity event organized for the Sports for Education and Economic Development (SEED) Project. At the time, Jessica worked at a Dallas art gallery.

As part of his charitable contribution, Nowitzki agreed to go on two dates at that event. However, his heart was set on Jessica Olsson, whom he met that night, and he hoped to be able to go on a date with her. They soon started dating and, two years later, were engaged.

While talking about his relationship, Nowitzki said, “What made her so special? What made me fall in love with her? First of all, she’s got to be attractive. That’s obviously part of it, and I think we just clicked intellectually. She likes art, she likes sports. Her brothers both played soccer, they were professional.”

He further added, “She grew up around sports. We both love tennis and we love to travel. We both love kids and family.” While talking about their marriage, Nowitzki said, “You’re a team. Same with marriage. You’re a team, and pulling on the same string. You try to make it work and chemistry has got to be there. That is just the way I was raised.”

They Had a Kenyan Wedding Cermony

On July 20, 2012, the couple walked down the aisle in Dallas, Texas, where they now live. The two celebrated each other’s backgrounds by also having traditional wedding ceremonies in both Germany and Kenya.

The Kenyan Kikuyu custom included the community learning of the engagement, and getting to spend some time with both sides of the family before a formal dowry is discussed.

One of the customs also included Nowitzki correctly picking out his bride among five other women in disguise.

As Jessica Olsson grew up in Sweden, the tradition was new to her as well as her husband, but it was something they both loved being a part of.
