Screenwriter Jenny Lumet, the late Sidney Lumet’s daughter, is the latest of Russell Simmons’ accusers of sexual assault. On Thursday, the 50-year-old wrote an essay-style letter penned to Russell Simmons himself, detailing her traumatic experience with the mogul. Many are looking into her story and have also been asking about Jenny Lumet’s net worth. For more details on the accusations, here’s our Jenny Lumet wiki.

Who is Jenny Lumet?

Jenny Lumet was born on February 2, 1967, in New York City, New York. Her late father was filmmaker, Sidney Lumet and her mother is Gail Buckley, the daughter of actress/activist, Lena Horne. Jenny, like her sister Amy, is biracial, due to her father being Caucasian and her mother being African-American. Jenny is an award-winning screenwriter and is best known for the films Rachel Getting Married (2008) and The Mummy (2017).  Jenny was married to actor Bobby Cannavale from 1994-2003 and has a 22-year-old son named Jake. Her net worth is unknown at this time.

Jenny Lumet vs. Russell Simmons

What happened between Jenny Lumet and Russell Simmons? In a letter she wrote to Simons for The Hollywood Reporter, she alleged that the fashion and music mogul and Def Jam founder sexually assaulted her when she was younger. It was in 1991, she was about 24 years old, and she thought nothing of it when she was offered a ride home from Simmons and agreed. But according to Lumet, Simmons objected to his driving taking her home, and instead, they ended up at his place.

“You didn’t punch me, drag me or verbally threaten me,” she wrote, describing their arrival at his apartment. “You used your size to maneuver me, quickly, into the elevator. I said ‘Wait. Wait.’ I felt dread. I was very, very sad. I didn’t know if the driver was a further threat, or an ally. I was both relieved and terrified when he did not get into the elevator. Alone in the elevator, you pressed me into the corner with your body, your hands and your mouth.”

Lumet wrote that she didn’t recognize the Russell Simmons that she was looking at during the incident, and just wanted to go home, adding: “There was penetration. At one point you were only semi-erect and appeared frustrated. Angry? I remember being afraid that you would deem that my fault and become violent. I did not know if you were angry, but I was afraid that you were.”

She continued to see Simmons in public following this incident because they had many mutual friends, but she wrote that she never felt the same about him again. She said she came out after learning of the other sexual harassment claims.

“I never told anyone this story until October 27th of this year (after the Harvey Weinstein story was in the news, but weeks before the first public claims were made against you), when I told a girlfriend from childhood,” she said.

#RussellSimmons has decided to “remove himself from the businesses he's founded as not to be a distraction" in the wake of another allegation of sexual misconduct. Screenwriter #JennyLumet is the second person who has accused the Def Jam co-founder of taking advantage of her in 1991. According to her account of things via the Hollywood Reporter Lumet claims that after being at the same restaurant that Simmons offered her a ride home and things happened that she didn’t want to happen. Per her own accounts of that night…. “After getting into the car and telling the driver her address, Simmons allegedly objected and took her to his apartment instead. She said "You didn't punch me, drag me or verbally threaten me. You used your size to maneuver me, quickly, into the elevator. Alone in the elevator, you pressed me into the corner with your body, your hands and your mouth." She claimed once inside a bedroom, "There was penetration." "At one point you were only semi-erect and appeared frustrated. Angry? I remember being afraid that you would deem that my fault and become violent. I did not know if you were angry, but I was afraid that you were," she alleged. “I desperately wanted to keep the situation from escalating. I wanted you to feel that I was not going to be difficult. I wanted to stay as contained as I could." After the alleged incident was over, Lumet described quickly heading home. Russell released a statement saying… "I have been informed with great anguish of Jenny Lumet's recollection about our night together in 1991. I know Jenny and her family and have seen her several times over the years since the evening she described. While her memory of that evening is very different from mine, it is now clear to me that her feelings of fear and intimidation are real. While I have never been violent, I have been thoughtless and insensitive in some of my relationships over many decades and I sincerely and humbly apologize,". #JayLeesCorner

Russell Simmons Resigns

Following Lumet’s essay, Simmons replied with an apology of his own, but noted that his record of that night differs from Lumet’s.

“I have been informed with great anguish of Jenny Lumet’s recollection about our night together in 1991,” he said. “I know Jenny and her family and have seen her several times over the years since the evening she described. While her memory of that evening is very different from mine, it is now clear to me that her feelings of fear and intimidation are real. While I have never been violent, I have been thoughtless and insensitive in some of my relationships over many decades and I sincerely and humbly apologize.”

As a result of the scandal, Simmons removed himself from his many businesses, and stated that he didn’t want to be a “distraction.”

“I don’t want to be a distraction, so I am removing myself from the businesses that I founded. The companies will now be run by a new and diverse generation of extraordinary executives who are moving the culture and consciousness forward. I will convert the studio for yogic science into a not-for-profit center of learning and healing. As for me, I will step aside and commit myself to continuing my personal growth, spiritual learning and above all to listening.”
