Feeling the Bern? The Sanders family sure is, now that Bernie Sanders‘ wife’s investigation is ongoing, and getting more attention than ever. Bernie and Jane are deflecting questions and it doesn’t look good for the senator and his wife. To get the full story on Bernie Sanders’ wife, take a look at our Jane O’Meara Sanders wiki, right here.

Jane O’Meara Sanders’ Age and Early Life

Jane O’Meara Sanders was born in 1950 in Brooklyn, New York to Benedict and Bernadette O’Meara, and she has a brother named Ben. She has three children from a previous marriage; Carina Driscoll, David Driscoll, and Heather Driscoll. Jane O’Meara holds a doctorate in Leadership and Policy Studies from the Union Institute, a nontraditional school. She was president of Burlington College from 2004 to 2011, and she was interim president of Goddard College, her alma mater. She is Bernie’s second wife and has been married to him since 1988.

The Jane Sanders Scandal

Burlington College started out in 1972 as a small liberal arts school in Vermont, for nontraditional students. In 2016, graduation didn’t just mark the end of the school year, but the end of the school as a whole. The institution shut down after many financial difficulties and it is believed that Jane Sanders had something to do with it. While there’s no proof yet, many of the school’s financial problems occurred during Jane’s tenure as college president. The school lost its line of credit and it was also at risk of losing its accreditation, which was vital for receiving funding. The allegations against Jane are centered on her allegedly committing bank fraud by falsifying documents to acquire a new campus for the college.

Jane O’Meara Sanders’ salary as Burlington’s president was $160,000 and Jane O’Meara Sanders’ net worth is estimated between $194,000 and $700,000. Bernie has also described himself as a six-figure Socialist. The Sanders’ own property in both Vermont and Washington.

I Want a Lawyer!

With the FBI investigating the Sanders family, both Jane and Bernie have hired Burlington attorney, Rich Cassidy and Larry Robbins, a respected Washington defense attorney.

In 2016, Bernie’s former presidential campaign manager, Jeff Weaver gave a statement to the media, which was said on behalf of the Sanders family.

“In February of 2016, in the middle of Bernie’s presidential campaign, the vice-chair of the Vermont Republican Party asked for a federal investigation of Burlington College. Jane has not been contacted by the FBI or any other authority and only knows as much as news reports indicate. Jane served as president of the college from 2004 to 2011. In the five years following her departure, the college experienced major turnovers in leadership, staff and its Board of Trustees,” the statement read, according to a Vermont Public Radio report.

So far, both Bernie and Jane haven’t commented directly and probably won’t speak unless allowed by their lawyers. Bernie recently deflected questions about his wife’s fraud investigation and didn’t comment any further. The scandal was overshadowed by Hillary Clinton’s email scandal in 2016, but now that the dust has settled, the spotlight is now back on Bernie’s wife.
