Fresh off the heels of the crime drama, Sleepless (which was released on January 13), Jamie Foxx is all set to promote more movies this year. Here are the new movies starring Jamie Foxx for 2017.

Jamie Foxx hasn’t had a starring role since 2014’s Annie, and he’s had a very quiet 2016 —but that was probably because he was gearing up for a busy 2017! Foxx lent his voice to the 2016 documentary, Jackie Robinson, based on the first African American baseball player who broke barriers and played in the major leagues in the 1940s. The film had other evocative narrators, including President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The award-winning singer and actor starred in the thrilling gritty crime drama, Sleepless, opposite Michelle Monaghan. The movie was released on January 13 and ranked eighth at the box office on its opening weekend.  If you can’t wait to watch Jamie Foxx on the big screen again, you’re in luck! Sleepless is not the end for Foxx in 2017. The Academy Award winner has more movies lined up for this year. Here are the new movies in 2017 that will star Jamie Foxx.

Sleepless Comes with Mixed Reviews

Jamie Foxx, T.I., Michelle Monaghan, Dermot Mulroney, David Harbour, Gabrielle Union, and Scoot McNairy star in the intense remake of the French thriller, Sleepless Night. Sleepless follows undercover cops, Vincent Downs (Foxx) and Sean Cass (T.I.) who are being watched by Internal Affairs for corruption. The story is set in Las Vegas, where Downs gets caught in a game of corrupt cops and the mob.

The cop duo attempt to steal from an entrepreneur (Dermot Mulroney) and a mobster (Scott McNairy). In their attempts, they invite the suspicions of an IA investigator, Jennifer Bryant (Michelle Monaghan).

After the job goes wrong, it becomes known that Downs was involved, resulting in the kidnapping of his son. The rest of the movie follows Downs trying to rescue his son while bringing down the gangster, with Bryant hot on his heels.

Sleepless had a production budget of $10 million and grossed $10 million opening weekend, but it didn’t perform as well as many would expect. Foxx’s crime drama Collateral (2004) co-starring Tom Cruise, had praised the two actor’s performances and earned Foxx an Oscar nomination. So, with such high expectations from a Jamie Foxx crime film, fans were hoping for more from Sleepless.

Baby Driver to Hit Theaters This Year

Later this year, TriStar is releasing the British action comedy, Baby Driver starring Jaimie Foxx, Keven Spacey, Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jon Hamm, and Eiza González. Elgort is a young getaway driver named Baby, who suffers from tinnitus so he blasts music in his car to drown out the ringing in his ears. Baby meets his dream girl (Lily James) and decides to turn over a new leaf. The plot twist? A robbery gone wrong lands Baby in deep trouble with Doc (Spacey) a mob boss, and Bats (Foxx), his trigger friendly sidekick.

Baby Driver is directed by Edgar Wright, who’s previous directorial work includes Shaun of the Dead. Wright gave Entertainment Weekly a glimpse of the film, saying that the soundtrack drives the plot. But further details on the soundtrack and the movie will remain a secret until we get closer to the release date. The initial release date for Baby Driver was set for March, 2017. However, it has now been pushed to August 11, the same time as the supernatural horror sequel, Annabelle 2.

Foxx Stars in Robin Hood

There have been many movies made on the Prince of Thieves, and four other films are currently in development by different studios. But Foxx is confident that his Robin Hood is a cut above the rest. While promoting Sleepless, the 49-year-old told We’ve Got This Covered, that his upcoming film is a “grittier take” on the band of Sherwood Forest.

“Those other Robin Hoods don’t mean s***. Our Robin Hood, it’s on,” Foxx said. “We’re battling, gonna drop the same day. What’s different about ours? It’s just a grittier take. With Otto [Bathurst] directing, it’s just a grittier take. It’s not like in the Sherwood Forest, tights and all that. It’s not like that. It’s grittier, a more real version if that makes sense. But no disrespect to anyone else’s Robin Hood.” Watch Foxx’s full reply to why their Robin Hood movie is better than the others below.

Foxx will play Little John, Robin Hood’s second in command. He posted a picture on Instagram of his rehearsals in Budapest. The actor is learning archery for his “most challenging role yet.”

Taron Egerton from Kingsman: The Secret Service, will play Robin Hood in the movie (another reason why we are excited for it). Egerton echoed his co-star, saying that their movie is darker and his Robin Hood is not a perfect hero. Eve Hewson from Bridge of Spies will play his love interest, Maid Marian.

According to early reports, the film was originally slated for a 2017 release, but filming for Egerton’s Kingsman‘s sequel caused scheduling conflicts. As director Otto Bathurst only wanted Egerton for the role, filming was pushed, and Robin Hood will hit theaters on March 23, 2018.
