Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Jameson Taillon, underwent surgery on Monday (May 8) for suspected testicular cancer. After sensing “groin discomfort” over the weekend, the 25-year-old pitcher was placed on the 10-day disabled list. He had surgery at Allegheny General Hospital on Monday morning.
Pirates General Manager, Neal Huntington expressed his support and motivation for his player in a statement saying, “Jameson has again proven to us what a strong person he is by the way in which he has reacted to this development. We are appreciative of Dr. Lyne and the staff at Allegheny General Hospital for their invaluable expertise and efforts in caring for Jameson.”
This medical condition is the second setback in the professional baseball player’s career. In 2014, he underwent Tommy John surgery, costing him the season. He then suffered from a hernia in 2015. Taillon took this latest development quite positively. Post-surgery, he posted a rather moving and positive note on Twitter.
