Former NBA star Scottie Pippen turned 50 last month and it seems that age is starting to get the better of him. The retired athlete has undergone a routine surgery to aid his troubled shoulder and will be out of the game for at least six months.
The Hall of Famer shared a photo to his Facebook and Twitter accounts on October 6, informing fans of his operation. In the image, Pippen is seen lying shirtless on a hospital bed with a huge piece of gauze wrapped around his right shoulder, along with a brace for support.
However, given that the father of one is seen in the picture gazing off into the distance with a dismal sort of look on his face, his caption was a complete contrast. It was an optimistic message to fans that read, “Down but not out! 6 months of recovery after a planned shoulder surgery and I’ll be good as new.”
And the Olympic gold medalist is such a loved phenomenon that every single comment on his post was one that wished him well with a “speedy recovery.” Some users shared similar stories of shoulder surgeries and how keeping a positive outlook is what helped the most.
With so many well-wishers and his own outstanding defending skills, there is no doubt Scottie Pippen will be up and about soon enough.
Pippen has certainly been living it up in the days leading up to his surgery. Last week he rang in his 50th birthday with a star-studded bash complete with custom cocktails, a cigar-rolling station, dinner by famed chef Jean Paul Lourdes, live entertainment, and a night of dancing. The NBA icon also received a custom Hublot watch (from the CEO of Hublot nonetheless) with over 100 diamonds and a photo of himself on the back.
